Should Stanford be preseason #1?

  • Are Cameron Fleming and/or David Yankey projected to be high OL picks in this year's draft? Both are juniors and key components of the Stanford OL.

They lose their top RB Stepfan Taylor, but Wilkerson returns and among the guys vying for playing time at RB is Barry Sanders Jr., who was a top recruit last year.

Zach Ertz and Levine Toilolo are both junior TEs that may or may not leave early - both big parts of the offense.

On defense they lose key seniors; DT Terrance Stephens, DE Ben Gardner, OLB Trent Murphy, OLB Chase Thomas, ILB Shayne Skov and CB Terrance Brown.

lose too much on an offensive line that has been absolutely dominant.

Trust me. There will be a drop off, but not as big as people assume.

I would be very surprised if Ertz does not go to the draft. He is a reshirt junior, so I am guessing he will be graduating soon as well. Skov can come back next season.

If Skov comes back, won't it be his 6th year? How many guys is too many, in terms of guys ahead of him in the draft? Players I can think of who may be projected higher than Skov; Manti Te'o, Kevin Minter, Alec Ogletree, John Bostic, Arthur Brown.

If Chip Kelly stays at Oregon, Stanford won't even be the #1 team in their division.

Chip Kelly has all but said he's leaving. It's been pretty well known that he was gone and OU fans admitted that early on this season.

That being said, I don't know who they return and who they lose. I know that Kevin Hogan, their qb, was only a RS freshman this year. If not freshman, he's still got a couple of years left. I wouldn't put it past them. They would be preseason top ten for sure I would think.

I would have thought the same thing after last year. Didn't they lose two offensive linemen to the first round in last year's draft?

Oregon will return 15, 8 on offense and 7 on defense smoke

And we finally have a top notch kicker coming in.

  • The OL's are big ones for Alabama IMO. Not discounting Lacy or Milliner in terms of talent/experience combo, but Alabama is loaded with talent.

The OL continuity and versatility lost is something that you have to truly overcome as a unit - and a lot of times it's difficult to predict how that process is going to unfold. Alabama certainly has the youthful talent at the position, but it's five gelling together. Alabama loses a lot of that off this team.

Pure roster talent...they are very salty of course and are set to return QB and add experience/talent to a potentially terrific WR core, and have Yeldon and quality behind him at RB.

Stanford is really good/talented at linebacker. Losing a lot of that group is the big one for them IMO. They cover about every ability and skill one would want in that group, and will have to replace a lot of game experience on top of skill/size.

  • Most Bama fans didn't expect to play in the NC this year. We thought we would go 11-2 or maybe 12-1. Everyone was gearing up for the 2013 season where we knew what we had coming back. We have 8........8 Seniors on this team this season. Next year we will have around 20+ with AJ and Mosley coming back. On paper, this will be the best team Saban has ever had.
