Should the SEC respond to the big10?

By going and getting FSU and 1 other?

Why would FSU want to go to the SEC?

  • FSU is not going to the sec. Big-12 is where they have their eyes set on. Before the sec thinks about adding teams, they need to add a 9th conference game.

Why would we want to do that? Horrible move financially.

Because they have 1 loss and are currently 10th with 0.0% of going to the NC.

Alabama and Georgia (maybe even Florida) have one loss and will go to the NC before ALL other conferences with a 1 loss record. That's why a team like FSU would want to play in the SEC. Respect.

Opposite actually. From a financial standpoint going to 9 games is paramount. sec will be relegated to 3rd status behind the PAC-12 and Big-10 until they do decide to go to 9 games. just look at this past weekends slate of sec games. Absolutely terrible. No position to negotiate more tv money with games like that.

    Then move to four 4-team divisions...(source: outkickthecoverage.com)

    3-2-3 Schedule (3 divisional, 2 permanent, 3 rotating)

    (Permanent Division Opponents in Parentheses)

SEC EastVirginia Tech (Missouri and Texas A&M) NC State (Missouri and Miss. State) South Carolina (Arkansas, Vanderbilt) Florida (Georgia, Tennessee)

SEC SouthTennessee (Florida, Alabama) Georgia (Auburn, Florida) Kentucky (Miss. State and Texas A&M) Vanderbilt (South Carolina, Ole Miss)

SEC CentralAlabama (Tennessee and LSU) Auburn (Georgia and LSU) Ole Miss (Vanderbilt and Arkansas) Miss. State (Kentucky and N.C. State)

SEC WestMissouri (Virginia Tech and N.C. State) Texas A&M ( Kentucky and Virginia Tech) Arkansas (South Carolina and Ole Miss) LSU (Alabama and Auburn)

This sets up a Final Four type semi-final with the division winners (in Dallas and Atlanta?) that would make a fortune!

This post interest me. I am all for this.

Bama lost to a ranked SEC oppenent with strong SOS.

FSU lost to NC State and their SOS is not as strong.

    There is your ranking difference.

SEC will add teams to add TV markets. Adding FSU does not add a TV Market. Best bet would be add NC State (UNC will laugh at you) and VT. That way you get NC, VA and DC.

You can thnk whatever you want to think. In this country you have that right. But look at the standings. 6 SEC teams in the top 12 (I know I had to reach for South Carolina). I think the SEC is making plenty of money and more is on the way with the SEC network in 2015.

I doubt either NC team would leave a conference that they basically run. My understanding with VT and UVA is that they are a package deal. shrug

8 games is better to manipulate your way to higher rankings. 9 games is better to found out who is actually best, and drives more revenue.

At some point decision makers in the south are going to get peeved that teams like Washington St. and Indiana are bringing in more television revenue than Alabama.

Stronger football conference yes. More money maybe, maybe not. The ACC is building an educational consortium similar to the CIC. In time that will dwarf any profits from football just like it does for the B1G. The ACC will still negotiate a good deal for football with the help of ND games and the new members/tv marketplaces. The tv revenue gap will not be so much that a $50 mil exit fee will be made up anytime soon. Let's say the difference is $5 mil per year. That is over 10 years payoff considering the TVOM. By then the educational consortium will be bringing in some revenues.

CIC universities confer, on average, 15% of all Ph.D. degrees awarded annually in the United States.

CIC members engage in $8 billion in funded research, receiving some 12 percent of the total federal research funds awarded annually (18 percent of the National Science Foundation total, and 15.7 percent of the USDA total).

Collectively, CIC members employ more than 38,000 full-time faculty members and enroll approximately 400,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

CIC member libraries own more book volumes (more than 80 million volumes) than the 10 campuses of the University of California system (34 million) and the Ivy League (64 million).

Have a feeling that neither Maryland nor FSU (if they leave) will pay anything close to 50 million.

Yes but wasn't there strings pulled and something to do with the state legislature getting involved that got VT into the ACC? If it took that much to get them in I do not see VT leaving being that simple. Also considering that Maryland and FSU were the only two schools to vote no to the $50 million exit fee, I do not see any other schools having a leg to stand on as far as fighting the fee should they want to leave.

3-4-1 would be a better schedule...that would keep Spurrier happy since the schedules are all the same within the division.

    3 teams in your division
4 teams in another division (eg: SEC East round robins with SEC North - rotates each year)
1 team to maintain any rivalries not covered by above - up for debate as to whether this game counts in the division standings.

Yep, I could see NCST and VT in the SEC with UNC in the B1G. Don't be surprised to start hearing rumblings of UVA to the B1G next.

From my understanding the Governor of Virginia pushed UVA to vote for VT even when they didn't want to. There isn't much love between Hokies and Hoos so package deal isn't in the picture. My guess as why VT voted for the 50 million was a promise that Notre Dame would some day become a full member. It still blows my mind they did that, but if FSU or CU jump ship they'll be the first to call the SEC.

I'm sorry but you are wrong.

First 9 will, in most cases, be giving up a home game every other year. That is millions in gate revenue, concessions, etc. For SC, our OOC was East Carolina, UAB, Wofford, and Clemson. Keeping this model gives us 7 home games. Every game was televised except for Wofford, which USC chose to run as PPV (more $).

Also, don't forget we live in the South. There isn't much to compete for our airtime. We prefer to watch Bama/Western Carolina or Florida/Jacksonville St over Indiana vs. Washington. Just the way it is.

Next problem is that this will cause more teams to fail to reach bowl eligibility and thus miss out on the bowl revenue. This is assuming the current rules of post season eligibility hold true. How much money is the BIG looking to lose by failing to qualify for all of its bowl tie-ins?

  • I would love to add Duke and UNC. I think doing so would change the way people viewed BBall down here. Add Duke and UNC to UK and UF and watch out. All those great venues would breed other good programs. Now, from a money standpoint, and that's what this is all about, I have no idea if that is a good idea or not. It might cost us money to bring them in. Bit from this fans standpoint, it would be bad ass. VT would be my next pick. After that, do not want

Can we add them to the SEC East?! That way SC basketball would suck even harder!!!

I still vote VT and NC State. UNC is not worth the package deal of Duke. I also would rather have the Virginia market.

NC State adds nothing. They are just filler and VT is not worth having to bring them in to do it. I'd rather play a OOC game than NC State. No more Missouri's
