Then move to four 4-team divisions...(source: outkickthecoverage.com)
3-2-3 Schedule (3 divisional, 2 permanent, 3 rotating)
(Permanent Division Opponents in Parentheses)
SEC EastVirginia Tech (Missouri and Texas A&M) NC State (Missouri and Miss. State) South Carolina (Arkansas, Vanderbilt) Florida (Georgia, Tennessee)
SEC SouthTennessee (Florida, Alabama) Georgia (Auburn, Florida) Kentucky (Miss. State and Texas A&M) Vanderbilt (South Carolina, Ole Miss)
SEC CentralAlabama (Tennessee and LSU) Auburn (Georgia and LSU) Ole Miss (Vanderbilt and Arkansas) Miss. State (Kentucky and N.C. State)
SEC WestMissouri (Virginia Tech and N.C. State) Texas A&M ( Kentucky and Virginia Tech) Arkansas (South Carolina and Ole Miss) LSU (Alabama and Auburn)
This sets up a Final Four type semi-final with the division winners (in Dallas and Atlanta?) that would make a fortune!

Opposite actually. From a financial standpoint going to 9 games is paramount. sec will be relegated to 3rd status behind the PAC-12 and Big-10 until they do decide to go to 9 games. just look at this past weekends slate of sec games. Absolutely terrible. No position to negotiate more tv money with games like that.

Bama lost to a ranked SEC oppenent with strong SOS.
FSU lost to NC State and their SOS is not as strong.
There is your ranking difference.
SEC will add teams to add TV markets. Adding FSU does not add a TV Market. Best bet would be add NC State (UNC will laugh at you) and VT. That way you get NC, VA and DC.

You can thnk whatever you want to think. In this country you have that right. But look at the standings. 6 SEC teams in the top 12 (I know I had to reach for South Carolina). I think the SEC is making plenty of money and more is on the way with the SEC network in 2015.

Stronger football conference yes. More money maybe, maybe not. The ACC is building an educational consortium similar to the CIC. In time that will dwarf any profits from football just like it does for the B1G. The ACC will still negotiate a good deal for football with the help of ND games and the new members/tv marketplaces. The tv revenue gap will not be so much that a $50 mil exit fee will be made up anytime soon. Let's say the difference is $5 mil per year. That is over 10 years payoff considering the TVOM. By then the educational consortium will be bringing in some revenues.

Yes but wasn't there strings pulled and something to do with the state legislature getting involved that got VT into the ACC? If it took that much to get them in I do not see VT leaving being that simple. Also considering that Maryland and FSU were the only two schools to vote no to the $50 million exit fee, I do not see any other schools having a leg to stand on as far as fighting the fee should they want to leave.

8 games is better to manipulate your way to higher rankings. 9 games is better to found out who is actually best, and drives more revenue.
At some point decision makers in the south are going to get peeved that teams like Washington St. and Indiana are bringing in more television revenue than Alabama.
