Shrine Bowl: Day 1 Top Performers

Several prospects shined Monday during the first day of practice for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, and here are some of the ones that caught our attention.

  • Yeah I am not sure Crowder's height means anything as far as his ability as a player. It lowers his projection somewhat, but many coaching staffs, including some who backed off earlier in the process, felt he was the top interior lineman in the country going strictly off his film.

  • Great list, Keith.

Gilmore, Covington, Terry and Durant would have been my headliners, too.

Couple of lower-radar guys who were noteworthy ...

We'll have a story coming on Lewisville (S.C.) three-star S/OLB Malcolm Means, who appears to be the best sleeper out there, in my estimation. A couple of D1s interested.

Also, keep an eye on South Aiken (S.C.) OT Justin Day, an early Kentucky commitment before that staff turnover. Day and UNC's Prince looked the part more so than any linemen.

T.L. Hanna (S.C.) LB Ben Boulware bears mentioning as well. He's a contact player and thudded at every opportunity (and then some), often appearing to get under the skin of a few offensive teammates. But it was the kind of effort a few observing HS coaches noted as a coach's dream for the way it permeates the rest of the defensive unit.
