Kelly led the Irish to a 12-0 regular season record before taking a hard loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game.

"This week, I had an incredible opportunity to speak with one of the premier organizations in sports about becoming their head coach,” Kelly said in a release Saturday. "Like every kid who has ever put on a pair of football cleats, I have had thoughts about being a part of the NFL. However, after much reflection and conversation with those closest to me, I have decided to remain at Notre Dame.

"This decision was motivated purely by my love for Notre Dame and the entire Fighting Irish community, the young men I have the great fortune to coach, and my desire to continue to build the best football program in the country.

"We still have a lot of work to do and my staff and I are excited with prospects we have

Dude pissed off most the fanbase with the timing of this and the way it was handled. He better have another big year.

I absolutely hate how the ND fan base is all over the place...homeboard was acting like he already left when the rumors came out.

Guy had all the leverage in the world...I don't blame him for seeing what his options were.

Im obviously ecstatic that he is back. However, I wouldn't be that upset if he had left. Program is in a much better spot than it was when he showed up, and that's all a fan can ask for.

Loyalty in sports is way overblown...climbing the ladder is part of every business, why should sports be any different?

I was hoping he went elsewhere when he held a press conference earlier this year, just to say he was still committed to ND. That just screamed of Prima Donna imo. But don't get me wrong, I wish the kid all the best at UF.

  • I always figured that he was fighing for as much money from ND as possible. He was going to get a raise either way, but he got a bigger one for taking that interview. He was only making (yeah I know "only") about 2.5 million wasn't he? Probably got himself about 500k more a year for meeting with the Eagles.

I am wondering how much Saban is going to get bumped up. I promise that he'll at least be at 6 million a year if not more for shutting down the rumors as quick as he did. Saban could have done some interviews and been paid 8 million a year for sure.

Impressive that a program with less money like Alabama has to pay 2.5x more money than ND.

Has to pay or "wants" to pay? Big big difference. Trust me I know. When saban was at MSU I was able to coach his camps, every assistant knew he would leave if MSU didn't commit to football. Not just his salary, but an upgrade at every level of the football program. Tom Izzo had no problem with it either. But we had an asshole president who didn't understand that if your football team is great all donors start opening up their check book and it helps the university overall.

Bama does it right. Fans are happy, coaches are, I'm assuming donations go up so administration is happy. You can have football and academics. My school is just starting to figure that out.

  • Saban gets raises for farting because they open up the ticket booths for a chance to smell it. And 100,000 fans show up.
