So I guess ND got Stanford's spot in the BCS MNCG

  • Or did they? Those are the breaks sometimes, and for Stanford the questionable calls at the end
of regulation and the denial of Taylor's TD to force a 2nd OT vs the Irish might have cost the Cardinal
a spot in the BCS title game, giving that spot to Notre Dame. (Another job well done by the Pac12 refs).

I'm not posting this to discredit ND or their season, rather to discuss the possibilities of what might
    have happened IF -

Stanford had left South Bend with a victory instead of a controversial defeat. There would be no undefeated teams in the BCS hunt right now. What scenario do you guys think would have happened if this form of BCS chaos had been unleashed?

    Is it -

Scenario #1 - With a win over UCLA in the Pac12 CCG, Stanford would play the Bama/Georgia winner in the BCS title game. (Alabama/Georgia vs Stanford)

#2 - Stanford's win over ND would have cleared the way for another All-SEC title game between Florida and the Bama/Georgia winner. (Florida vs Alabama/Georgia)

#3 - In a repeat of 2011, when Alabama lost at home by 3 in OT to LSU, and didn't play in the SEC CCG, but was still picked for the BCS MNCG, 1 loss Oregon is selected for the BCS MNCG and given a chance to avenge their 3 pt OT home loss to Stanford in an SEC like All Pac12 BCS Title game. (Stanford vs Oregon)

#4 - They reward the 2 teams with the best SOS and resume and match Stanford vs Florida in the BCS title game.
    (Florida vs Stanford)

My guess is scenario #2 would have happened, although scenarios #1 and #4 would have been more right IMO.
The world would have to end before we would ever see scenario #3 happen.

  • The end result wound be an SEC winning it all.

I'm tempted to explain to him the problems created by the fact Stanford lost to a bad Washington team vs. the other 1 loss teams that lost to ranked teams, but why bother? It would just be ESPN's fault.

That's one way to look at it, I guess. But Stanford would be the only team to have 2 wins vs 2 of the 6 remaining one loss teams and both wins would have been on the road (@Oregon & ND).

Plus they would have wins over Oregon St, UCLA 2x, USC, and Arizona.

So yes, they would have had the worst loss of the 6 one loss teams in the hunt, but their 2 wins over top 10 teams plus 5 more quality wins, would more than make up for that loss when you consider how weak Alabama and Georgia's resume would be in comparison to Stanford's.

Apparently you have it all figured out though, but the way you figured it makes me wonder if you know all that much about college football.

  • They also lost to a shitty Washington before losing to ND. So no, they would not be in the MNC game. Moot point bra.

You'll never convince him the PAC isn't the most dominant conference in football, there's really no use bothering with the guy unless you want conspiracy stories about ESPN coercing pollsters into ranking SEC teams too high.

    Aaahhh, one of those.no
