story, characters, overall presentation. This is all real stuff and a fairly accurate depiction of some of Baltimore's worst neighborhoods.Maybe slightly exaggerated but even some of the main characters are based off of real people, who are baltimore street legends.

its funny you ask b/c i kinda go back and forth on that from season 1 it was McNulty and now into season 2 it might be Daniels ...really great series and my wife is already pissed about how much time i am taking to watch the show

i had heard that which makes the stories so compelling - really in awe of some of the situations within the storyline like how even the cops will come out and support the East side vs West side in the neighborhood basketball game

My favorites were Jimmy McNulty and Michael (the kid who will one day become Omar). What's fascinating about the wire is there isn't a bad character really. Even characters you hate are still fascinating and you want to follow. Incredible show

totally agree with you and why the show is so interesting - OMAR is a great character for sure and even string is kinda interesting as well even though the guys is bad news

I forgot to mention Bodie too. One of my favorites. That's how you know the writing is so good for this show. What other show could make you feel bad when a drug dealer died? You almost forget some of these guys are drug dealers because you see a different side of them.

Farmer and the Dell...Omar Little may be the best character in the history of TV. No doubt I watched the entire season 1 in one sitting twice. It completely waste a couple of weekends. Oh wait, that was not a waste of time. I know people hype the Sopranos, but the Wire is light years better

Clay Davis however is scum. He's entertaining but may be the only guy who didn't have an redeeming quality other than his signature sign off...

Show is way better than Sopranos

I am obsessed with the mafia and mob culture so I look at the sopranos as my favorite tv show ever. I'll admit that without that bias the Wire is probably better and I know the Wire has better writing. It's also incredible that the Wire never had a main character like the Sopranos had with Tony Soprano.

good point and i liked the Sopranos as well but for some reason i really like this as well as anything i have watched except maybe 24

The politicians are also based on baltimore Politicians.
Carcetti = martin o'malley (worst governor In America IMO)
I'm telling you all rent the corner mini series. Its a Precursor to the wire. The mother actually is now married to one of the people Omar is based on. (He is based on like 3-4)

The streets are the main character. Thats why the thing comes full circle and you see how these kids go one way or the other. How sometimes the street sucks em in and sometimes it spits them out.

just on season 2 so i havent seen that yet but somebody mentioned that to me before i stated watching the series
