So, I say again, D'Antoni to Clippers?

  • Makes sense. Last thread got no responses. Maybe this one will too.

  • Dantoni blows

Anybody that hires that " no defense gets played on my teams " sally, then they suck too

  • Not a desirable hire iyam. My reasons why...

    1. A defensive mindset is inherently lost while playing his system. He doesn't want energy spent on defense (unlike most half-court teams), but only pushing the ball to score in transition.

    2. The Clippers traded away most of their perimeter players in order to get Paul. Now although Paul and Billups can still shoot the ball, D'Antoni's style is meant to open it up for role players, but Blake, Jordan, Bledsoe, et. al aren't high percentage shooters. Most of their shooters are 6-3 or under so even if they hit a high percentage playing 3 or maybe even 4 guard sets will make one of the worst defensive teams even worse for the sake of increasing pace and volume of shots.

    3. Bringing D'Antoni with the addition of Paul could (and probably will) inflate ticket prices and could exacerbate existing Clipper problems. The Clippers don't have a problem with attendance (although I don't remember seeing this many Clipper fans ever), but Donald Sterling is known as one of the worst owners in all of sports. If he went out of his way to hire D'Antoni and brought in Paul with no on-the-court results, then he could (and likely will) blow up the team in a similar fashion after the 2006-2007 season.

I don't think there is a coach who gets fanbases more excited about regular season success than D'Antoni. His greatest accomplishment was getting the Suns to the Western Conference Finals, which he was only able to do once. His teams could never get past the Spurs.

I believe he got $6 million a year while coaching the Knicks. He probably won't see half of that as the Clippers head coach.

I'm one of the few that could see the run-n'-gun style winning a championship, it has to be more of a hybrid similar to the way Alvin Gentry ran it in Phoenix during the 2009 playoffs. Paul is the best PG at shifting gears and would be more successful that way.

I believe the Clippers still have 4-5 PGs (Paul, Billups playing out of position at the 2, Bledsoe, Williams, and Foye who is a combo guard). This team has very little front court depth as currently constructed, and D'Antoni's style sacrifices size while most teams in the NBA covet length.

This team is built for a half-court system with Paul at the helm imo. They have defenders in place (Paul, Blake, Jordan, Martin).

His system would benefit Billups and Butler if either stay for the long haul.

I'm going to stop here. I can go on and on abut Coach D. my twocents
