Apparently Hostess's bakers went on strike and the CEO gave them until 5 p.m. last night to come to an agreement or else they'd close the company. The bakers continued to strike and the CEO declared bankruptcy. Around 18,000 employees will be kicked to the curb and God knows what will happen to Twinkies, Wonder Bread, etc. The CEO is in the midst of selling those particular licenses to other companies. Some union called The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union is apparently to blame for the strike.

It is in the long run. I hate it for the 13000 non-union employees but 5000 union members wouldn't break their strike. The owner tells you they can't maintain it's financial stability then what else can e done? Same thing should have happened at GM,Chyrsler and Ford. Should have let those companies go into bankruptcy. They could have come out stronger, union free and if they didn't, new companies with better business plans could have taken their place in the market. Unions do nothing but drive costs of operation up and companies can't compete with the likes of Toyota and still earn profits that keep shareholders happy.
