  • I know for a fact that banks loan these players the money to buy the cars they drive. Its a deal where they have to pay just interest per month on the vehicle. it a low risk for banks to make money on interest, because they know the player will have money. i.e. trent r

    The LOIC charge hinged on the car and the fact that they never followed up on his paperwork when he reported it to compliance.

    How is it saving you 19,000-28,000 per year? It's not money you were already paying.

    Not reading this whole thread, because I really don't know. I do know that if players choose to fully use their meal plans, etc, they have reasonable cash left over. Pell Grants and student loans can be pretty significant too. It's not like they have to pay a lot for rent/utilitities, insurance, food, etc. I used to stretch about 2500 of my student loan money across the whole semester for whatever.

    Further, and this may have changed, star players used to be able to get future earnings loans from banks. Bank would stack a huge interest rate on it and collect when they went pro. If they didn't make it to the pros, they were shit out of luck when their career ended. Again, not sure if this is still a legal move.

    Finally, I DO know that our compliance department has kept records of all athletes vehicles and how they got them and paid for them ever since 2002 or so. Anyway, even $600/month isn't a lot when all your other needs are taken care of and you get an annual pell grant and student loan.
