So WVU to the Big 12 a done deal?

ESPN isn't a good source for information.

Nobody really knows shit until it happens, everyone's just throwing shit against the wall and seeing what sticks.

  • Who the heck cares about Louisville? (Other than basketball, that is).

The whole thing is idiotic. Taking West Va for Mizzou was a stretch to begin with...if they have to take Louisville too, I think the whole idea collapses, because Louisville adds virtually no dollars to the deal.

Boone Pickens needs to be ‘convinced on West Virginia' | NewsOK.com

The Oklahoma State megabooster is never short on opinions. Before speaking Wednesday at the Jim Thorpe Association's October Leadership Luncheon, Pickens dished on everything from conference realignment to Mike Gundy's salary.

  • The more all this mess goes on the more I love the ACC's move.

We went early and took the "expected departures" from the BE. We strengthen our Basketball stranglehold, make a solid move in football (yes, and if you think Pitt/Cuse add no football value then you're just wrong), and we look like the conference with strong leadership and a plan going forward while everyone else (PAC-12 excluded) scrambles.

Hopefully Notre Dame moves in web we eventually go to 16.

  • Good gravy, if the ACC added Notre Dame and either Rutgers or UConn then no one would be able to say they did better than us. SEC adding a chunk of the Texas and then the KC and StL markets would be impressive but watering down their principal product makes it merely equal with the ACC in that case.

When the ACC signs their new TV deal a few programs will really leap forward over the next 3-5 years.

Yup, Miami will finally be able to bring in Gruden as their HC will all that new TV money...

    Couldnt help it...

  • how come the big 12 doesn't add louisville too? why do they want to stay at 10 teams and not get to 12 or 14?

They are trying to sway Notre Dame. ND is interested in bringing in all sports except football, and the Big 12 thinks that may be a good option. They feel that ND will pretty much be forced to join a conference when conferences go to 16, and they want to be that conference. Louisville will more than likely be in the Big 12 in 2013.

If Louisville would come for next year each team would earn $16.5 Million. If they don't come each team will make $18 Million. TCU is only getting a % until 2015, but WVU demanded full revenue.

  • Well mountie, welcome to the Big 12, now you get to deal with Texass too, it won't be long before you guys get the screw job in a close game. I am extremely happy, I have been an OU fan for 40 years, and frankly from Big 8 to Big 12 Missouri never really brought anything to the table. And from a personal standpoint I live in SE Maryland and my wife is from Pittsburgh, so having my Sooners in Morgantown every other year is GREAT news!! I was really not happy when it looked like they were headed West. Frankly in football, these moves have increased the Big 12-2's schedule strength, and WEAKENED the SEC's schedule strength. Now with 14 teams, adding to average teams A&M and Mizzou, the SEC teams have a greater chance of NOT playing the better teams every year. Take Georgia for example....
    Florida
    Vandy
    Kentucky
    Missouri
    South Carolina
    Tennessee
    Auburn

Now used too they would play two more that rotate, and it was usually one good team, one bad team and rarely the Alabama/LSU pair.... NOW this will not happen, it waters down the the schedule.

The terms of the contract would almost assuredly be renegotiated if Louisville (or any team) came in.

Not until 2013. That is why we expect them to come to the Big 12 in 2013.

Yes, because that strategy worked out so well for the Big East.

So this would mean Pitt and Cuse aren't waiting 27 months as well? And that FSU doesn't have to play WVU ooc anymore? Sweet.

The road trips are the same save for one school. TCU is closer than A&M for everybody.

Umm, no. The Tier 1 contract doesn't expire in 2013. Try after the 2015-16 season.

WVU may have demanded it but they didn't get it.

TCU and West Virginia on same revenue-sharing plan

There will be no difference in how Big 12 Conference revenue is shared between the Big 12's new members, who both plan on entering the league in 2012.

"It's similar; it's the same," said Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas.

Official details have not been disclosed, but the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported earlier this month that TCU would earn 50 percent of the expected $17 million payout in the 2012-13 academic year, 67 percent in 2013-14, 84 percent in 2014-15, and 100 percent in 2015-16.
