So it looks like violent video games are under review...

  • ... again, in the wake up the Newtown shooting (also known as "yet another shooting"). Y'all will remember I am NOT one of the people who called for a banning of any guns (sans grenade launchers and tanks cool ) but simply a stricter regulation and licensing practice for the more deadly of the sort (also made the same claim for the more powerful automobiles).

That out of the way, what are the thoughts on this coming up (again) in the Senate? I assume the issue will be violent games in the hands of children, but you never know where a good old fashioned yelling match will take the discussion in side the meeting room.

  • IMO the bigger issue is mental health. Nobody in DC seems to want to touch it because the liberal agenda in our country pushing tolerate everything AND we also can't afford to lock the crazies up where they should be in the first place. One solution I have is restructure our prison system with mental health wings and legalize a few things that are illegal now to offset the prison overpopulation. I don't smoke weed myself but I would MUCH rather have a stoner on my street that a nutcase with access to firearms because mommy and daddy refuse to acknowledge that their kid is nuts or can't afford to institutionalize them themselves. The Government wants to take more tax dollars and freedoms? Fine with me take the crazies freedom and use the dollars to lock them up, but leave mine alone.

  • There are millions of people that play video games that do not go and shoot up public places.

From what I have read this guy was playing Starcraft 2. Anyone that has seen Starcraft 2 would laugh at the thought of a game like making someone want to commit a violent act.

Always got to be a scapegoat.

  • The NRA came out today and blamed video games for the Newton shooting.

So apparently, guns don't kill people. Video games kill people.

  • Nobody wants to blame the actual guy that committed the crime. They always have to look for something else to blame it on. That's all it is. Whether it be guns, video games(lol), or parenting or whatever. Nobody wants to blame the actual person that committed the crime.

It'd be different if it had been some meticulously planned act of depravity by some terrorist or something along those lines. We've got a guy with a mental disorder who for whatever reason is never encouraged to get help who goes off the deep end. I blame him, don't get me wrong, but I blame his family, friends, and doctor(s), too.

I was just reading about that. They also blamed movies and music videos.

That is the problem. Nobody is held accountable for their actions and there is always an excuse.

They also rejected any gun control measures and proposed putting armed guards into every school.

That's because gun control won't stop anyone that wants to shoot up a school from shooting up a school. Armed guards are definitely a better way to go.

Completely wrong? They could implement the harshest gun control that they could think of, and anyone, anywhere could find and get any gun they wanted. I know I could. I could get all the ammo I want too.

Tell me how gun control would keep someone that wanted to shoot up a school from shooting up a school.

  • How about the parents buying kids games that are rated 17 and up???? Get these little kids OFF XBL, there's no way these kids should hear the crap that goes on Xbox Live.

Parents shouldn't buy their kids games that are made for 17 and up.. You have to be at least 17-18 to buy these games so blame the fuggin' PARENTS dammit

There are millions and millions of people in this country. Just because a law won't stop every single theoretical person from committing a crime is no reason to stop passing laws.

In 1996 a man went on a rampage in Australia with two semi-automatic rifles, legal guns at the time. He killed 35 people and injured 21 more. It was the 7th mass shooting where more than 5 people were killed in ten years. After that, Australia (which previously had gun laws similar to ours) banned all semi-automatic rifles. Since then, there have been no shootings resulting in more than two deaths.

Adam Lanza would have had no access to an assault rifle if they were illegal. If they were illegal they would cost thousands of dollars on the black market, which a suburban boy with no friends and no job would have had no access to.

  • Guns have no place in our schools.

To rationalize that the solution to this problem is best answered by more guns in our schools is a disappointing and unacceptable argument.

You could deliberately buy your 4 year old every first-person shooter ever made and all the Grand Theft Auto games to boot and he wouldn't be any more likely to grow up and kill somebody. Blaming video games and movies for murders is so idiotic that it pisses me off. For the NRA to do it at their post-Newtown presser has me mad as hell.

Kids in Europe play the shit out of ultra-violent video games and everyone in the world watches ALL of our Hollywood movies, ESPECIALLY the big violent blockbusters. And they don't have the murder rates we do.

    RabbitSC

  • The government needs to worry about bigger problems like the fiscal cliff instead of video games.

    Good grief

  • I agree that video games aren't the cause....but it's pretty annoying to hear 11-year-olds on XBL cussing up a storm while playing COD. shrug

  • I think when people realize that there is no solution to shit like this the better. It's sad but it's true. You cannot stop a psychopath that is set on doing this kind of evil, especially when he already has his mind set on killing himself at the end of it.

It fvcking sucks but nobody can give me any logical way of stopping a maniac from pulling stuff like this.
