So let me get this straight about the SEC.

  • Lose 3 bowl games and suddenly they suck?

No excuses the gators got whooped Louisville came to play and played like the better team but Florida didn't want to be in the sugar bowl anymore than Alabama in 08. Michigan in the rose in 06 or USC in the sun bowl this year. I agree it's unacceptable teams are like that. the SEC is possibly a little spoiled and leads to teams playing like junk when you don't have a crystal trophy at the end of a W! Bottom line is I like watching the SEC win but at the end of the day could care less... Only game that means anything is Monday night. Roll tide roll baby!!!!

  • I'm an SEC guy but your argument is flawed. Its not like UF was in line for the Natty, it was going to be either bama or Uga. UF got flat out played and embarrassed its conference. They should be ashamed for crapping the bed against a big east team who had some bad losses. LSU didnt want to be in their bowl and it showed. Some of their marquee players are lazy asses as evidenced by that sign their S&C coach posted. That sign showed me why LSU hasnt won a Natty with Les Miles's players. He's busy telling the players how great they are even though they dont show up for conditioning. Miss St got beat by a better team I guess. Also, you can tell these non-sec schools are getting tired of hearing how great the SEC is, in the outback bowl and the capital one bowl I think the small 10 schools played with more emotion but just got beat by better teams with more talent.

  • Still have the best bowl record (winning %) the past five years of any conference. Didn't go back any further than than, so may be longer.

  • I think they simply set a very high bar for themselves. Last few years it's seemed like the SEC has given out some serious ass-whoopings to Big Ten teams (Mississippi State over Michigan and Alabama over MSU come to mind, as well as OSU's MNC attempts). Even the wins are seen as disappointing because they were relatively close.

Perception is all about expectations and how teams/players/coaches perform relative to those expectations.

  • Problem is bottom half was way down. Top heavy as all get out. After Vandy at 6th, its all crap.

    Very true.

I did give Louisville credit they took it to Florida..

My argument is flawed, I disagree. Many teams every year play down and Florida is no acception. Florida lost 1 game and thought they deserved a shot at the championship like Bama last year. Put them in te sugar against Oregon or Kansas state they play their asses off. To say they were up for Louisville tells me you never played football an do not understand the pride and emotion involved.

Again I will say even if Florida came and playe lights out Louisville might still have beat them last night but it would not have looked as bad at least.

Good conversation, good opinions, especially about Miles.

    Roll tide.. SEC proud!

Florida was #3 in the BCS. That is the definition of top. LSU @ 8 was also top. Both got flat out beat and Florida's embarrassment is telling. All talk and no D.

I wouldn't say LSU got "flat out beat", they lost on a last second field goal

  • As long as Bama wins Monday,

I could give a fvck what the rest of the SEC does. That is just me though.

Welcome to how the rest of the non-SEC fans feel. No single teams performance should be an indictment or glorification of an entire conference.

The SEC will remain at the top, or near the top, for decades to come unless the southeastern portion of the US quits producing massive, speedy freaks of nature in large abundance. Win or lose, the SEC school is most likely going to have more pro players on its roster than its counterpart, but that fact doesn't always translate into a great team per se (especially when the QB play is as bad as it was for a lot of SEC squads). College football doesn't really have any great teams this year and the SEC was no exception. The only reason people are up in arms about the performance of the SEC thus far is because of the media lovefest that has existed for the conference recently, which may have reached a peak this year with 6 SEC teams finishing the regular season in the top 10. Clearly that was a gross overstatement, and the warts that those teams had were overlooked because of conference affiliation.

And the excuses from some fans are pathetic. Really, your team doesn't get up to play in a BCS bowl unless it's a NC game? Those Florida boys looked pretty fired up to me. Take your lumps like a man, admit the majority of the conference wasn't playing at a much higher level than the rest of the country, and get ready for the next season (which should be judged on its own merits, and not what happended last year).

I disagree with this part. Who would you rank ahead of those 6 teams going into the bowls? A 2 loss Clemson team that was just dominated at home by South Carolina? A 2 loss FSU team that was just beaten at home by UF? Maybe a 2 loss OU team, but they had struggled with OSU and WVU recently. I don't think you could make the argument for Nebraska, Oregon St., or Michigan either.

    My top ten at the end of the season was: 1. Bama, 2. ND, 3. Oregon, 4. OSU, 5. UGA, 6. K State, 7. UF, 8. Stanford, 9. T A&M, 10. Oklahoma.
