So we are extracting more domestic oil than ever but......

  • joetheogre said...

Record output, but a higher increase in global demand=higher demands

People in China want to drive now, so despite the fact that we are producing more than ever, prices are still bound to go up.

All true enough. Increased domestic output AND refining capacity would lower domestic prices. Getting it out of the ground is great but until we can pour crude into a gas tank it won't much matter. That we are sending oil overseas to be refined is retarded.

If a Republican was in office right now the media would be bitching non stop about gas prices. Fact.

True - but Obama promised an oil independent nation and his administration would get gas prices down.....

So we are producing more oil then ever - Obama's words - and our gas prices are at $4 per gallon

Not sure what is worse - NCAA teams in denial on sanctions or Obama apologists

Every president since Nixon has promised energy independence, and none have delivered. It's a sexy thing to say on the campaign trail and nobody ever follows through.

  • It's not a democrat and republican problem. Yeah you can drill drill drill and wipe the oil sands clean, but the bad part is once it's gone it's gone forever. Everyone will be affected when the oil runs out. At the rate the world is using oil it should run out worldwide in the next 50-75 years. If we haven't developed alternative energy by then the shit will hit the fan.

    That's a fair argument

It just seems the guy is an excuse machine - the first four years of a bad economy was Bush's fault, cannot bring the troops home as be promised because of conflicts of interest with our allies, promised to lower unemployment- but has not and is about to send 800,000 DOD personnel out on the street on furlough- but it's because he cannot work with republicans even though it was his plan that got us in this position with the sequester.

    Just excuse after excuse

Yes it will do some research. All developed oilfields that we can get to will be running dry. I'm not saying that the planet will be completely tapped. There will be plenty left after this happens, but getting to it will be the problem. Maybe by then we will have oilfields out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

  • Gotta sell our oil to other countries and make some money off of it, if we keep it for ourselves people will just demand it for next to nothing.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Seriously, absolutely ridiculous.

When you're fighting against a party whose leaders declare that their #1 goal is to make you a one-term president, you won't get any cooperation whatsoever. To lay all of the blame for the inability of the parties to compromise on Obama is so far beyond wrong that it hardly bears mentioning.

Hell, you have GOP leaders like Darrell Issa saying things like "this is not a time for compromise." As a president, what do you do there? If you act unilaterally, as in the case of the executive order relating to the DREAM Act, you're called a tyrant. If you try to negotiate through traditional channels, you're opposed regardless of the merits or validity of your proposals. As a result, you end up with the type of deadlock we saw in Obama's 1st term.

On top of that, the sequester is hardly Obama's baby. The only reason Obama was forced to consider the idea of the sequester is because of the lunatic fringe taking the debt ceiling hostage. That crisis was just another example of the obstructionism Obama has been fighting against since he was elected. No other president has had to deal with that amount of BS.

Finally, even GOP darlings like Paul Ryan have said that they've fought for legislation like the sequester for years - but now, they're backpedaling and attempting to use its negative effects to slam Obama. I would hope that you're not so brainwashed that you just dismiss the entirety of this post, but I really, really can't emphasize how ridiculous your post was.

Using current technology on currently producing reserves we have about 75 years. The fact is there are massive reserves not producing because of environmental issues (Colorado/Wyoming shale, offshore) or cost isn't there yet to make it profitable. Most don't realize that coal can be refined into a combustible fuel(nazis used this a lot during ww2) as well and we have that to spare (not to mention the massive quantities of natural gas available).

Ding, Ding, Ding... We have a winner ! You are correct cockfool, There is no shortage of crude in this country whether it is domestic or bought on the open market. But there sure is a shortage of refineries to bring that crude to your local gas station, since no new refineries have been built in the U.S. since the 1970s. When you can control the amount of refined gasoline that is brought to the U.S. market, then you can easily control the price at the pump. I remember when the population of the country hit 200 million, and now it's over 300 million. Most of that 50% increase in population is of driving age yet the ability to increase a refined product has not changed and demand stays high. Great strategy by the oil companies and it becomes a concerted monopoly. Bastards !

It's not Liberals blocking that pipeline. It's idiotic Republican Nazi farmers from the Nebraska Sandhills doing that. Idiots that think oil is gonna contaminate the abundant water supply and don't realize that water runs away from the heart of the aquifer where the pipeline will run. Funny how no one gave a shit about the aquifer when the first Keystone pipeline was put in place

THIS x1000, isn't there already thousands of miles of pipe running through there already? But its heavy crude! Oh noz!

Yes there's an existing Keystone pipeline already. Not to mention natural gas and gasoline pipelines already crossing the aquifer

Global warming leads to longer summers, longer summers leads to more lawns needing to be mowed, more lawns getting mowed means more mower failures, more mower failures leads to increase in mower purchases of bigger, more gas using mowers, more gas guzzling mowers leads to increase fuel, increase fuel leads to increase demand, increase demand leads to increase price?

Massive off shore potential - great white north should unveil some big reserves once there is enough infrastructure in place to start attracting big projects. Not to mention gas hydrates that people are trying to figure out how to tap into. Absolutely massive gas reserves in the ocean cause of these things. Add that to all of the shale formations now becoming economic, should be good for a while if no alternative source of energy takes over. IMO the biggest issue will come down to water supply, because of all the fresh water required for these extraction processes. In 50+ years I'd imagine there are going to be some issues supply the water demands of earth's massive population.

Whoever figures out an economical way to remove/lower the salinity of salt water will be the richest person on earth within months. No doubt in my mind. The amount of salt water on earth is limitless
