I can't believe I was rooting for this "Michigan Man", he didn't do the opening ceremonies so he could rest and take......FOURTH?

Hard to maintain that fire in the belly for a second Olympics
He took all that time off and I think he came back, somewhat reluctantly because of outside pressures and to keep his endorsement deals going as long as he could
I have jyst never gotten the feeling he was totally all in this time around
I hopecI am wrong
Hope the same thing isnt going on with Usain Bolt too

he had no shot at the 400 im, not with Lochte in full beast mode and with Phelps only training 9 months for it

He sounded high in that interview after the race. He didn't look high, but he sure did sound it.

4 yrs older, hard to stay motivated, has been on top for 2 Olympics, etc. There is a fine line between winning and losing and I attribute 4 yrs older and motivation to his IM disappointment.

Seems to me that Phelps isn't 100 percent there. Didn't even medal in the 400 IM.

I think a lot of it has to do with him deciding only 9 months ago to train for the 400IM. If I remember correctly from the Olympic trials he even said after qualifying that he and his coach were going to sit down and decide if he would swim this event at the Olympics. That distance takes a lot out of you and endurance plays a huge part. He just seemed to run out of steam. I think that he will be fine with the shorter distances.

I don't think he wants to be there. In his interview with Ryan Seacrest he said he can't wait for this to be over.
Combine that with Lochte pretty much training non stop for this, it's no surprise he lost.

Athletes can test positive for weed as long as their are drug free for events. There has been some recent talk about deregulating the weed rules.
