So who else thinks Utah will upset USC?

  • TrojanWarrior1 said...

This thread is a perfect example of how USC is held to a higher a standard than the rest of college football. All of you folks are trying to find the pimple on the Prom Queen's ass...hoping to find one.

Think a little highly of yourself there hoss?

You aren't the only one held to a high standard or have been scrutinized.

Hell, people keep talking Alabama and their defense, losing all those starters. Almost the entire starting defense has had hundreds of meaningful snaps (including Nico Johnson,Vinnie Sunseri, Trey Depriest, CJ Moseley, Dial). The only new faces are Deion Belue, Adrian Hubbard, Xzavier Dickson.

Utah is ridunkulous in NCAA FB 13. Outside of Utah, Oregon, and USC, the rest of the PAC-12 are essentially MAC teams in my dynasty...

Agreed about Utah being the sh!t on NCAA 13.

Hopefully this season is filled with many upsets too. That's one thing I love about the new NCAA game is all the upsets that happen on a regular basis, like someone previously mentioned.

As for this year, I think Utah could pull the upset but it's not likely.

When you see comments like, "USC always loses a game.... every year", it tells me that USC is held to a higher standard. When USC loses, whether it be on the road or in multiple OT sessions, it is unforgivable. The latest example would be 2008.

Higher standard? No. A trend? Yes. Will it serve this year? Who knows?

My only concern is that SC does not lose a starting Olineman during the game, thus allowing Utah to embarrass USC because of 1 player getting hurt. Pretty sure that has never happened to any other high profile team...pretty sure?

Pimple? You think having Lane Kiffin as your head coach is just a pimple? Wow. I wish I knew what you saw in him. I'll hang up and listen.

The only thing he said that is a stretch is the "most overrated team in the Top 25".

...and I qualified that one comment as "my opinion."

I just have to see a Kiffin-led team do more than knock off one ranked team to start thinking he has matured into a good HC.

Higher standard? Yes. USC is not allowed to get upset by lesser teams. Only teams from the South are allowed those types of "mulligans."

A trend? How many teams go undefeated every year? However, USC, is expected to go undefeated.

people dont hold usc to a higher standard...they mock them because they lose to teams that have absolutely no business being on the same field as them. every team loses games...bama lost to lsu last year....an elite team

if usc would avoid the epic meltdown game, they wouldnt get these kinds of threads made about them

USC is favored 99% of the time. The chances of them losing to a "team that has no business being on the same field..." is going to happen. Why? Because going undefeated is difficult. Like I said, "higher standard."

  • Personally, I don't get the hype to begin with. It's been 37 years since USC has gone undefeated and untied and not had the season voided.

2011: Alabama lost to only #1 LSU
    2010: Auburn went undefeated
    2009: Alabama went undefeated
2008: Florida lost to the Cotton Bowl-winning ranked Ole Miss by one point
2007: LSU lost in two 3OT to both ranked teams (also benefitted from the most ridiculous year in CFB)
2006: Florida lost to the #11 team on the road

    -------

    USC

2006: lost two games (one to a good OSU, the other to a mediocre UCLA)
2007: lost two games (to a terrible Stanford team and a good Oregon team)
2008: lost to a good Oregon State team

So your only gripe is 2008 (which also had like a six one-loss champions and undefeated Utah).

    --------

Now that you have a championship game, one-loss wont kill you guys. Heck if you lose a close game on the road to a ranked team and beat Oregon twice, you won't get left out unless there are two undefeated teams (and might still get in depending on who those two teams are).

He (and USC itself) can recruit? Agreed. Can he coach? Not proven.

Sorry, as any ND fan will tell you, talent is only PART of success and another large (or bigger part) is actually "coaching them up."

That is a HUGE question mark for USC and the main reason I think they are overrated. What has Kiffin done? Will they be a good team, sure. But, win it all? Hardly.

USC's standards were high under Pete.

Between Hackett (before Pete) and Kiffin (after Pete) USC is a combined 37-25.

You forgot to back to 2003. 1 loss in 3OT on the road. And the consensus #1 team in the country.

By the way, your characterizations of who is solid and who is not is comical.

Thanks for the "might..." Way to go out on a limb there.

Higher Standard. You know it. Just accept it. Or mock it...Or just continue to pretend that USC being #1 over the reigning nc's does not bother you.

    So a 6-7 team isn't mediocre?

    A 10-4 team isn't good?

    A 4-8 team isn't terrible?

The question should be why is it easier to go undefeated in the SEC?

Perhaps your "10-4" teams are more smoke and mirrors than anything else? You know, how they load up on cupcakes OOC and then only play certain teams during the conference slate, thus giving the impression that they're "good."

Why are you ignoring the fact that you keep complaining about a higher standard when there isn't one and USC hasn't even come near the ostensible standard anyways?

That would be a worthwhile argument if these undefeated or one-loss teams lost their championship games. Except they haven't. They have routinely and soundly beaten five straight teams from three different conferences.

    You've already provided 1 example...2008.

    I provided another example...2003.

We can do this all day long and I will be able to provide more examples.

Why are you ignoring the fact that SEC gets a mulligan for losing in conference whereas, USC, does not? Why are you ignoring the fact that it is easier to undefeated in the SEC than it is in the P12?

I know you know the answer(s) to these questions, however, if you answer them truthfully, your whole premise gets shot to shit.

Your team didn't get past Utah in your first big BCS bowl game appearance since I don't know when...your team just freakin' rolled over.

Don't give me the excuse that you lost an O-lineman, we've lost two in one play...it is what it is, your team quit.
