  • I have a few questions about heaven.
Does people's free will have an impact on their personality?
If they lose their free will, are they the same person that you know?
If they keep their free will, can they commit sins that could send them to hell from heaven or do they lose the free will that made them the person that you remember?
Is it possible that one person's heavon coud possibly another person's possible opposite of paradise?
Since it has been determined that the human brain has the capacity to see, feel emotion, feel heat or cold, pain or suffering, experience time, determine personality, etc., is it posible what makes you, "you" is stripped away in the afterlife or else waht you do in heaven could send you to hell?

These are some of the things I asked my priest / teacher who had no answer for me.

You got me. I honestly dont think many could say with much confidence except those who claim to have died and seen heaven or hell. Good questions, maybe someone can answer them.

I dont believe you cam go from heaven to hell once you are "admitted" for lack of a better word.

  • i couldnt answer your questions...surprise... so i asked my wife to take a shot :

God in His sovereignty gave us free will--we have the right to make our own choices: right or wrong it's our choice. we never lose that God-given right of free will. we are 3 part beings. we are a spirit, we have a soul, and we live in a body. when we choose to ask Jesus in our heart and are then born again, our spirits are recreated with the nature of God Himself through the Holy Spirit. it's a new creation, but our souls (mind, will, and emotions) are not born again. the bible talks about how we must grow in the knowledge of God and eat the "meat" of the Word instead of the "milk" which only happens over time by spending time in the Word and prayer.. in romans it's called "renewing our minds". but never can you lose your salvation. everlasting life is ever lasting! scripture says there is nothing we could do nor any power on earth or beneath earth that can separate us from the love of God. Heaven is a place where born again believers go after their body stops on earth. scripture says this world was created after Heaven. i believe so much of nature is in Heaven such as mountains, oceans, and so forth. it's a place where only the will of God exists--nothing but goodness and love and perfection. there is nothing of the curse there--no pain, death, worry, lack, jealousy, greed... it's a place flooded with the Glory of God.

I am not going to deny that what you are describing is great, but you also describe something where all you loved ones are completely different from what you knew.
To me, It almost seems like you lose the will to have a personality in order to be in heaven from everything I have been described in my lifetime.

Paul says that "What we'll become is not yet known" in Heaven. You have a resurrected body.

Heaven is where you see God as He really is. That sustains all of one's perceptible capacity for the rest of eternity.

Time doesn't exist in heaven or hell. "I tell you that before Abraham was, I Am." God is and so shall we all be.

The OT also says women should not own land or property. Do you say that Jesus feels the same way?

I know this is Paul in the NT but he is referrencing the OT.

    wife again ,

not really sure what you mean when you said, "lose the will to have a personality". we don't lose anything--we only gain. there is only one way to heaven--asking jesus in our heart. even if we never spiritually mature; our believing in His grace at the cross brings us into the God's family. our personalities are one facet of our soul, not our spirits. bottom line is we don't go to heaven or hell b/c of our personalities. it's our acceptance of jesus--the way, the truth , and the life, that determines our eternal home. and once in either place, heaven or hell, that is our final home.

What about proverbs 31? I know your position and your desire to cloud the issue. The Holy Spirit essentially wrote the Bible through man. The Holy Spirit testifies of Christ and says what the Father says just as Christ did.

So when the Bible lays out God's restorative plan of male headship where man would lead woman there are some authority strata God decrees. And therefore Christ decrees.

This will be my last post of the night. I like the discussion so thank your wife for me.
Where I am coming form is the want to be with your loved ones again. Since free will plays apart of everyones personality, when you see them in heaven, they will not be the same. They will be completely different. That is all I am trying to say.

I hope you two have a great evening and we can continue this another day with some civility even it has to go to pms. I have no problem there.

Human hopes for Heaven will fall far short. Will we see our loved ones in Heaven? The Bible doesn't say. Will be enraptured by God and never notice any of the other people there? Bible doesn't say. Will it be simply a redeemed Earth under the leadership of Christ? Depends on interpretation.

One thing is for sure, Heaven won't be heaven because your friends and family are there. When I am in heaven, by the Grace of God, if if if I ever see my father I will likely exchange the briefest smile in history and then refocus on God.

Those people who think Heaven is heaven because it has any other awesome aspect apart from God have thought of a heaven they themselves would get quite sick well before they even get settled in so to speak.

Don't. It's out of a bankruptcy of the knowledge of God you believe that. God is the point, not the facilitator. It's a humanistic thought to believe you'll want anything but God once the veil of sin is lifted. Any Bible believing Christian would agree.

God is more than the unregenerate mind is willing to believe and more than the regenerate mind can fathom. Like I said, He's the point not some facilitator of our transient pleasures.

There is not one verse in Romans 3 that suggests man chooses God. However

    Jeremiah 31:33

    Ephesians is explicit

The "I chose God" teaching is a modern one that minimizes God and glorifies man's role. I am not a calvanist but sovereign grace is absolutely a Biblical teaching. Research it yourself. If your church teaches the sinner's prayer and the "ask Christ into your heart" I guarantee you your study will shed far more doubt than agreement with it.

The Kool Aid tastes like blood.

I thought shoeless' wife did an admirable job. I'll offer my humble take your fantastic list of questions.

I'd say your free will and personality go hand in hand as you cannot truly have a full blown personality w/o free will. No one is sent to hell w/o free will. We all decide for ourselves. And hell is simply the chosen alternative to living an eternity praising God. The folks we knew on earth are the same people we will know in heaven although they will be transformed into a better version, so to speak. Also, I think heaven is heaven for everyone, although Jesus does speak of making heaven special for each individual (John 14). And again, you stay you in heaven, just a transformed (for the better) you. I hope this helps and will admit that the Bible is no terribly specific on heaven. I think this is purposely done.

South Park, the source of truth. Awesome.

How can there be one truth w/o God? How can we know anything if we don't have the source for everything?

And, the Bible doesn't offer multiple explanations of truth. It's very specific in what it teaches. SOme people interpret it correctly, some don't. Interpreting history is similar. SOme folks interpret history in a historically correct fashion and some don't. After shooting Lincoln Booth either said, "Sic semper Tyrannis!" or he uttered something else. Just b/c some thought they heard something else doesn't mean all are right. The very fact that so many flock to Jesus speaks to His validity.

The only thing that matters is you recognize Christ died on the Cross for u=our sins. The blood he shed covered all mans sin. You must come to the Son(Jesus) to get to the Father(God).

    A. There is something to Admit

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” – Romans 3:23

Christians are people who admit that they are weaker, guiltier, and more sinful than they would have ever dared admit.

By nature and by choice we are not in a relationship with God — even though it is for such a relationship that we were created.

And that at the root our lives are self-centered rather than God-Centered, and that we are helpless to break this pattern without the power of God.

B There is something to Believe

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9

Christians are people who believe that God loves us so much that he sent his only Son to earth to become a man, Jesus Christ, and that Jesus died on the cross as our substitute and was raised from the dead in order to offer us complete forgiveness.

Through Christ, we are more loved, valued and accepted by God than we would have ever dared imagine.

C There has to be a commitment

COMMIT your life to Him and start living your life as a CHRISTIAN.

Romans 10:13 ... "For Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

If you are ready and believe here is a simple prayer that will help you invite Jesus into your heart...

Dear God, I know I am a sinner and I confess all my sins to you and ask for forgiveness. I do believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He shed His blood and died for my sins. I want to give my life to you and I now ask that Jesus Christ come into my heart and save me and be my Lord and Savior. Thank you for loving me and coming into my life, I now commit my life to you. Amen.

And yet, i's amazing how the Biblical ideal pervades much western society, even among those who claim not to believe. God never promised that everyone would believe. Christianity is still the largest religion around the world b/c of the abject truth contained therein. The other religions will come and go as they always have. The quickly growing Church in China isn't being reported.
