From your site writer? Come on major....

Sorry, doing two things at once and completely misinterpreted that. From a site writer sure, public accusations, no.

  • This has already been posted by someone else but I thought there might be more straight from the author:

From Jeffery Lee on Auburn Sports.com
I did a segment this morning on WNSP in Mobile and talked about some of the allegations surrounding the recruitment of Russellville RB/LB Brent Calloway.

I have been working on a story and spoke briefly about some my findings on the show.

Here is a quick synopsis of what I touched on this morning (and a little I didn’t have time to touch on):

    According to sources…

    - A supporter of Alabama, not an alumni or booster, was very involved with Calloway and his recruitment. The “supporter” took Calloway to Tuscaloosa numerous times including the last weekend before Signing Day.

    - Following Calloway’s visit to Tuscaloosa that weekend, the “supporter” drove Calloway out of state, most likely to Florida, and kept Calloway there until returning to Russellville Wednesday for Signing Day.

    - Calloway did not attend school during that span, nor did he play in a scheduled high school basketball game.

    - Calloway was excused from school from then-superintendent Don Cox, who informed Russellville principal Tim Guinn that Calloway would be excused because he needed the time to make his college choice.

    - No other Russellville student received excused absences to make his/her college choice.

    - Cox, who is no longer superintendent, has a very close family member that works in the Alabama Athletics Department.

    - Before Calloway’s last trip to Alabama before Signing Day, the “supporter” is alleged to have made cash payments to Harland “Peaches” Winston, Calloway’s adoptive father.

    - Winston received $2,500 from the “supporter” on at least one occasion.

    - In addition to the aforementioned payment, Winston was also behind on his house mortgage, but made cash payments to catch up and then asked how much it would be to pay off the mortgage.

    - The “supporter” also provided Calloway with a new car, which Calloway drove to school. The first day Calloway drove the new car, it raised enough questions that it was taken back by the end of the day.

    - The car was purchased by the “supporter” from a dealership in Muscle Shoals, owned by another big supporter of Alabama athletics.

    - The “supporter” informed Calloway that Calloway would receive $1,200 each month while at Alabama.

There is much more to the story and I will continue to look into it. I am scheduled to talk more about it Friday morning on WNSP in Mobile (from 7-7:30 a.m. CT).

  • Aren't both sides disgusted at this point?

I mean, intense rivalries are great. But doesn't it bother you a bunch of random posters on the internet and a few bush league writers try to smear the name of both academic institutions? Eventually it's going to open up a lot of libel cases and will be a total blackeye to both programs. Why not just play ball and let the NCAA do its job.

JLee needs to think a little bit before he fires these shots. You're crazy if you think either one of these schools are clean though.

Yeah, but what gets posted in the Bunker isn't public. Still not smart on his part to basically corroborate that he's who J. Lee is talking about.

    Really weird.

Edit: However, I'm certainly no fan of Lee or Auburnsports though, so carry on.

  • Im listening to Finebaum. Its a replay of November, except flip sides. All this crap slinging is gonna get both schools in trouble.

Frankly before you throw accusations, you better check yourself in the mirror. Both schools have crap on each other and the more you throw stuff out... the more attention you bring on yourself.

  • One thing that I'm realizing from reading other boards is either way this turns out, 247sports will likely see an influx of new members pretty soon.

The Bama posters are threatening to leave Rivals if they don't shut J. Lee down, and Rivals won't or won't be able to if Lee does have the goods.

And if Lee doesn't have the goods, he'll probably lose the site, and the Auburn posters will leave in shame.

The question is, which group would we rather have? I'm not sure.

He's not a journalist. Guy doesnt know shit. Gets his recruiting info directly from AU staff and the bunker thinks of him as a GOD, now he plays to the masses. Total biased BS... '

I Hope he lets it all hang out. The guy does not want to open that can of worms.

I don't know anything about J Lee, as I spent about 10 minutes on TOS in the last 3 years, never could stand the Bunker.

However, I do find it interesting that stories about Cam and the HBO bunch are just taken as the newest news, and now a story about Peaches getting money comes out and everyone is just "oh this is getting so old, look what J Lee is conjuring up form thin air".

I'm not endorsing his story, and don't really have an opinion about it so far....I'm just observing that the response is pretty interesting.

Is it because the story itself is so far fetched, or is it because it's coming from Jeff Lee, who most of you seem to dismiss as a wacko (again, I don't have the slightest little opinion about him)?

I didn't get much response on this post (quoted above) from earlier.

Again, I have no connection to the Bunker or Rivals or anything going on over there.

But I am continuing to find it interesting (almost amusing at this point), that when stories come out about Auburn, everyone just rolls with it, but now this comes out and people are taking one of two approaches....

    1. Come on everyone, can't we just let all this stuff go and play football? This rivalry is getting nasty.

    or

    2. Crazy ole Jeff Lee just making things up, how pathetic.

    So again....are these responses because....

    A. The story itself is just sooooo ridiculous (that Peaches got money to make sure Calloway went to Alabama)

    or there responses are because

    B. The story is coming from Jeff Lee instead of Brooks or Thamel or Evans?

Just curious of the thought processes behind the responses.
