Speculation Time- Who is No. 14 in the SEC???

  • Im hoping for NCSU, fits geographically better, adds NC market, fun town, and SEC quality coeds. I know FSU has all those except new TV market. They would be great to have as well, but wont happen with the UF/Sc/Uga agreement to nix in state rivals being accepted.

  • I don't know if its true or not but I heard there was a bit of a gentleman's agreement among SEC coaches not to allow a team in from an SEC state (Florida State Louisville and Clemson etc)

I agree- North Carolina State would be a perfect fit but doubt Yow has the vision to make it happen.

Yeah the only one of those schools I wouldn't completely rule out is FSU, but I do think it's a longshot.

As an Auburn fan, do you want the Tigers to move East?

I personally think they should consider Missouri in the SEC East. It doesn't make sense when you look at the map straight forward, but check out these distances.

    Vanderbilt 433 miles- 7.5 hours
Tennessee 609 miles- 10 hours, six minutes
    Kentucky 458 miles- 7.75 hours
    Georgia 734 miles- 12 hours, 46 minutes
South Carolina 871 miles 14 hours, 17 minutes
    Florida 1,009 miles- 16 hours, 51 minutes

    Arkansas, 311 miles 5 hours, 23 minutes
    LSU 773 miles, 12.5 hours
    Alabama 620 miles, 10 hours, 21 minutes
    Auburn 738 miles, 12 hours 38 minutes
Ole Miss 477 miles, 7 hours 51 minutes
Mississippi State 576 miles, 9 hours, 25 minutes
Texas A&M 752 miles, 13 hours, four minutes

The Tigers northern location puts them close to Vandy, UK and to a certain extent UT. You could make Arkansas and Missouri permanent opponents. The Razorbacks now play South Carolina every year. The Gamecocks could play Texas A&M.

To me that makes more sense than having back-to-back Iron Bowls to worry about and also possibly disrupting the UT-Bama game?? Everything basically stays the same.

    Thoughts?

  • It won't be FSU because of Foley and UF but I laugh out loud when folks say FSU doesn't bring it's own tv audience. We don't but who gives a crap, it's all about bringing eyes onto your telecast and if you think Mizzou will bring more than FSU then go eff yourself.

There isn't a CFB fan in America who wouldn't add FSU vs UGA/UTk/USCe to their list of anticipated games each and every fall. Half those fans will tune in for Mizzou vs Arky/Auburn/MSU

    fsufsu

  • Hopefully someone from the East.

    Dreadnought

  • Mizzou is the only team in the mix I believe. But there will be no rush. It will be a 13 team league next year and maybe even 2013.

WVU brings no immediate benefit to the SEC.
    FSU is a no

I personally want VT but that will not happen due to Virginia.

I honestly don't care if Auburn goes to the east. I think right now it would benefit us. The east is a little bit easier than the west right now. We would still have the iron bowl no doubt. Bama fans should care more about us moving than any other team and equally care as us. They would most likely have to give up the rivalry with UTknox. I don't forsee the SEC getting rid of the iron bowl and doubt that there could be two permanent opposite division foes. I used to love the LSU game every year but don't care too much about it anymore. If I had to choose I would rather the SEC not to have expanded but they did and Auburn moving east wouldn't bother me really at all.

  • I do not want NCSt at all for starters.

I think it will be WVU as the 14th.

Missouri can somewhat wait and see what will happen with the Big12 so that they can keep the options of the B12, B1G, and SEC open for them for the next couple of years.

WVU is in a crumbling conference and needs to get the move made now and the only conference that would definitely want to get to 14 now is the SEC.

It just makes too much sense for it not to be the one IMO.

    BetterOff

  • I think it is 50/50 Missouri and West Virginia...maybe a tiny, tiny edge to Mizzou.

I think all the other bigger names, such as FSU and Va Tech, have passed for one reason or another. Or have been bypassed.

As for Texas, there is more chance they join the Big East than the SEC. LHN or bust for them, apparently.

  • Slive said in the past they wouldn't invite teams in to eat pie unless they brought pie. I don't think he invites someone just to equal up the divisions. WVU would be a great choice if the state had more people. 1.8 million and they wouldn't get full credit for out of state markets they pull from. Its Mizzou or hope Maryland, NC State or VT realize the ACC is only getting worse.

That's the thing about Texas. The SEC would allow them to keep the Longhorn Network. SEC schools control their own broadcast rights on that level.

If I were the SEC, I would look into them. Emerging football program, good in some other sports (baseball). Improved facilities and the Dallas-Fort Worth TV Market.

N.C. State would make all the sense in the world- It's one of the major schools in North Carolina, you expand into that state- complete with the ACC in Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Greensboro, etc. Much like Texas A&M, the 'Pack has to be sick of living in the shadow of North Carolina and in the shadow of the Heels and Duke in hoops.

But like I said, I would be surprised if they went for it. They are a charter member of the ACC and a Tobacco Road school, after all. If there was one in that area to do it, though, it would be State.

  • I do like the idea of TCU in the SEC a lot. I know it won't happen for the same reasons that the PAC12 probably won't take Boise, but it would be the best thing for football as a whole, IMO on both sides.

I know that they say that Boise doesn't bring a lot and doesn't have a huge following or a large market, but the better they get, the more they are growing their market themselves. Their fanbases are growing in not only Idaho, but also Washington, Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Oregon.

How many PAC 12 teams would have taken 15,000 fans to Washington DC last year and 20,000 to Atlanta this year?

  • I've said for a while it wouldn't be Mizzou, but I'm starting to get the feel that they will be. The admin's tone over the last week, on top of Pinkel's comments, make me think it's entirely possible. I'm not handicapping it, but I'd guess it's pretty even.
