Maybe you can't read. He said it was overrated compared to other things, like the ability to get in and out of breaks, and you know.... actually catch the ball.
He didn't say it wasn't important.
Ted Ginn , Darius Heyward-Bey, Troy Williamson..... these guys should be in the HOF right?

It is, compared to a wr with, just avg speed, that can run the perfect route tree.

Of course, and in that sense I totally agree
My favorite WR's are the big guys with okay speed, but guys that can do it all including block downfield
A good example is somebody like Boldin, he only ran like a 4.7 at the combine and Im taking him over a Marvin Bracy all day everyday

In regards to an entire unit, yes.
But, speed isn't the only thing that creates separation.
I'd take a guy that runs perfect routes, has good body control and hands, and runs a 4.6, over a 9 route 4.3 receiver any day.

Some of the best SoCal teams Pete Carroll had were filled with big WRs who had questionable speed for the NFL. Whether it was speed or work ethic is debatable, but they were dominant in college.

I'm glad u pointed this out.
Because he had Fitz, another 4.6 guy, on the opposite side of him in Arizona.
He has Smith now, a super fast guy, on the outside.
in both scenarios , Boldin is still super productive.

Quickness >> Speed
There's few times when you will be able to have the ball with nobody in front of you and all that matters in running fast towards the endzone.
Obviously a good thing to have, but hands, route-running, breaking tackles, juking, and body control are all things that are infinitely more important.
Also, there's a big difference between 40 speed and game speed.

If speed was the only important thing for WRs Al Davis would've won multiple Super Bowls.
Shockingly enough, it's better to be a complete football player with a bit less speed than to have elite speed and less overall skills.

To add to the anti-speed argument.Did you all know that current Baltimore Ravens WR Anquan Boldin ran a 4.71 at the 2003 NFL Combine?And given that he's in his early 30s, he probably runs/plays a step slower. But he had no problem owning San Francisco's speedy corners such as Carlos Rogers for instance. That's the same 6' tall Rogers who ran a 4.44 at the 2005 NFL Combine.The list of great (which is to say accomplished) NFL WRs who run a sub-4.5 is actually small which suggests that speed is not the most important factor for a WR.The GOAT (aka Jerry Rice) ran a 4.7 in the 40 yard dash but he no problem taking on sub-4.3 beat Neon Deion.Don't get me wrong. Speed/quickness/elusiveness are all great qualities to have in a WR. But adding them with actual skill makes that combination of athletic qualities lethal.

If speed was all that mattered I'd be one happy Raider fan.
Track-level speed is lovely, but not when it comes at the expense of route-running, good hands, and body control.
Now, if/when you get the guy who runs a 4.4, jumps out of the gym, runs good routes, AND can catch the ball....then you're one lucky SOB.
