Speed at WR is overrated

  • Bouldin would not have ran a 4.7 40 yard dash if he was healthy at the combine.

Does it really matter though? Wes Welker ran a 4.65 at his pro day. 40 times are hardly indicative of how fast someone is on the football field.

Maybe you can't read. He said it was overrated compared to other things, like the ability to get in and out of breaks, and you know.... actually catch the ball.

He didn't say it wasn't important.

Ted Ginn , Darius Heyward-Bey, Troy Williamson..... these guys should be in the HOF right?

Why put Ted Ginn in this?He wooped your ass for three years with catching the football and running right by the Michigan defense.

He sucks as a WR. Great return guy.

He may be a poor WR in the NFL, but he owned Michigan corners for 3 years.

If speed was the only important thing for WRs Al Davis would've won multiple Super Bowls.

Shockingly enough, it's better to be a complete football player with a bit less speed than to have elite speed and less overall skills.

Uh, you do know he won multiple Super Bowls, right?

    Seriously?

Instead of being a smart ass why don't you take the comment for what it actually means. Al Davis was an absolute tool by the end of his drafting career because all he cared about was measurables. Taking DHB at 8 or whatever and #1 WR was hilarious.

You guys are taking his comment much too literally. Like he said, he loves speed, it's just not the only thing that matters.

He did own Michigan corner for two years, but not three.

I know his freshmen year he had a huge game as a returner, but I thought he had a big game as a wr too. I know Gonzo had a big game, but I could be wrong on Teddy.

  • 5 rec 87 yds...good solid game, but not ownership lol. Also had the 83 yd punt return.

I looked up the stats and he didn't have a reception his freshman year against Michigan. It's not relevant to this thread, as the argument is that speed isn't the only determinant to a WR, and is in fact overrated.

I'm wrong then. ESPN doesn't show anything for the game.

It's low hanging fruit to pick on Al Davis's misses in the first round, but people like you conveniently neglect to mention taking speed merchants like Denarius Moore and Jacoby Ford in the later rounds. Every GM misses, but everyone likes to act like the man had no eye for talent and that's just not true.

Also taking guys like Marcel Reese and converting him to a tight end b/c of his great speed. Al Davis had plenty of hits. But don't let the facts get in the way.

I agree for NFL purposes, but there are a lot of guys who are outstanding WR's in college just based on elite speed. Ginn is a good example of this imo. If you can combine that speed with great route running then you can be unstoppable, but I don't think you necessarily need anything more than speed to be very good in college.

I'm sure the Ohio State board was talking about how Denard Robinson was the best player in college football the last few years then and were really scared when he was switched to WR before last years game.

bananaUm no....we were all talking about what a fatass Brady Hoke is.

Additionally, we were making fun of Denard "Arm-Punt" Robinson

Jacoby played 8 games last year and had under 300 yards. That 40 time is really helping out.

Denarius Moore is inconsistent, and is much more than just speed.

4.4 speed is nice, but far from necessary, which is exactly what Heck said.

I'll take elite body control, leaping ability, hands, high pointing the ball, quick feet, running a route tree over 4.4 speed any day.

Are you gonna have your OL play all positions? Shame Morris looks like a can't miss prospect.....he wont be able to miss throwing picks to Vonn Bell

You can expect to have your teeth kicked in for the next ten years.

  • I suspect on the MU board you are talking about things like if you will even be able to recruit the top 4 or 5 prospects out of your own state.....

What happened with Treadwell the Michigan University lock?
