Y'all like eating specs? I find em mushy

I like them if they are fresh and fried. Spec nuggets are pretty good IMO.

  • First Cobia of the year hooked today at the Pensacola Beach Pier but not landed. Confirmed hook up, angler fail

Water temps around the Panhandle are 62-63 degrees. Still about 7 degrees short of ideal

If you check the Orange beach buoy, water surface temps jumped up to 68 today... Musta been a combo of warm air temp and the strong onshore wind.
Temps 60 miles out are holding at about that level.... It's getting close.

We are getting 64.8 in Pensacola for coastal water temps. Apalachicola is showing 60.3. Open water out of P'Cola is up to 68-70 degrees offshore.

Can you feel it? It's getting closer..
We were test fishing a few rigs for some snapper...
We caught some 20# plus and could have caught as many legal keepers as we had bait... And I mean any type bait.
The ARS is very OVER POPULATED.... And all the other info is purely politics at work.

Nice catch. Snapper season this year a joke. I' all about conservation but they have gone too far. The good news is a lot of people are on it that get things done. Hopefully we will see a change in the next few years.

I miss Ono. It's been probably close to one and a half years since I've thrown baits around those docks. I'm going to be up at Ft. Morgan in late May again kayak fishing. Hopefully I'll get down to Perdido for at least an afternoon at San Roc. Good luck man

thanks, we're planning on a little 4-4:30a.m.stroll w/light tack around Kees Bayou & over to Robinson Isle & then sneak through the pass at daybreak.

still likely a good 2 weeks away before the "heavy's" (Cobia & King) roll in.

to be honest i'm also looking forward to a nice casual pompano run & some serious eating. cool

    Mid-March update:

The first fish could very well be caught this weekend but I'd go out on a limb and say there's a better chance of mid next week.

missed the early a.m. jaunt but managed to get on the water by mid morning.

conditions sorta sucked so we (myself & friend ) stayed inshore but still bagged two nice 30" reds (light tack) and an assorted box of goodies.

    just finished "dinner for 6".cool

Rode back out Saturday,, caught a bunch of hawg snapper and one that was over 35#
Several nice Grouper as well.... Too bad the gov't won't let us keep much of anything right now...
Snapper iand grouper are as plentiful as they have been in the last 20 years..

at 1st glance it looked like a Speck that forgot to eat all winter. cool

new play toys installed & a 5 day Easter weekend scheduled for quality family time & some fishing but the "wind & water conditions" arent cooperating with the plan.

looks as if i'll be forced to go with plan B untill later today & enjoy " the mustang."

  • I'm still running the FOB so it might be an extra day or two. But good lord the fish. Lots of Tuna caught this weekend. Lots of C&R Suits and even a few Whie Marlin. Trying to get a pic of thr Mako they clocked at the curve becaue it's the kind that would snap a piano wire leader in half. Push past the Beeliners and Triggerfish spots. Puch deeper with bigger rigs. Big AJ's and Grouper are turning on too. They even had a Black come up n a chum line not 30yards under the boat on boat-can-maggie. This is about to be an amazing Summer getlemen and this "recon" team that ran out to see what was coming in first sure came up with results. Dey coming boys, and they comin' in good numbers.

An early season run to the rigs rigth now is a good idea. Get with your guy and pick a week. Tuna, Tuna, Tuna, a few Grouper if you want, then a chance at a few Marlin. Add on a Swordfish night at least once too. There have been OUTSTANDING reports of therm so far. I'm telling you guys, this year is going to be great. But it for sure as hell is going to be great right now. So get down here while you can and het some baits in the water!
