Staff::: 2014 RB Sony Michel and Leonard Fournette???

  • What's your opinion on these 2?? Who do you like better and feel has more potential?? Have any of you seen both of them and how do they compare??

  • I only know about Michel and he is ridiculously good, some would argue he is the best RB in florida today

For now he seems dead set on the Canes, very early for him though obviously

I have heard tons about Michel, but very little on Fournette kid is a beast. Only thing with him is he might get to big for RB. Was curious to how the staff think these 2 measure up.

Great question and tough answer. I've seen both in person. Fournette in a game and Michel in multiple camps. I think Michel has a little bit more fluidity and versatility right now but Fournette is the better pure running back.

I'll put it this way, I'm usually at multiple games every weekend during the fall. Fournette's game against McDonough 35 was the most impressive performance by a running back that I saw all year, regardless of class - and he was only a freshman. The thing about Fournette is that I'll take him as he is right now in a college program. I worry a little bit about how he's going to develop. He looks like I want my high school seniors to look already. Will he get too big? I don't know.

Michel is also really really special. I think his coaches are doing a good job of not overusing him and he can do a lot in space, open-field and as a receiver. I'm less worried about his projection. I think he'll grow into a really complete and explosive back.

Honestly, these guys could be 1 and 2 in the country in a couple years. But then again, you really never know how they will develop.

Who would you compare these two RB's too? What are each ones measurables? Does Fournette not remind you of Marcus Dupree? I know that's a big statement but he has the size from watching the video. Really curious to what his 40 time is.

That kid looks A LOT like a pre-injury Greg Jones.

I can't link YouTube from my phone because it doesn't give me a web address, but YouTube Greg Jones Mix and that's sort of a supped up version of this kids style IMO.

I've heard a lot about Fournette and Sony Michel, but this is the first highlight video I've seen of either. All I gotta say is DAMN. His video reminds me of Marcus Lattimore's senior video.

Below are Sony Michel highlights. He's a little bit more of a "highlight film" guy than Fournette. Great make-miss ability, a lot of creativity with the ball in his hands.

I think the best case scenario for Fournette is he continues to add strength without sacrificing speed and he becomes a physical specimen like Trent Richardson. I saw Trent Richardson rush for 419 yards in one game against a pretty decent team and he was just getting 10 yards a pop, out-manning those kids. I could see Fournette becoming that kind of back. I do really like the Greg Jones comparison though. Fournette will probably end up being much taller than Richardson but his running style I think is similar.

Michel has more flexibility as to what he could develop into. Right now he reminds me a little bit of DeShaun Foster.

  • I do kinda of worry about the tread on Sony's tires playing five years of varsity football. He carried it 248 times as an eighth grader and 228 last year. Add in receptions, etc and one is at 485-490 touches with three years left of HS.

Not a lock or anything for injury or cause for concern necessarily, but he'll have more carries/touches than most kids leaving HS.

Both backs are terrific talents in 2014.

  • Leo is already 5'11 220 pounds.. That video is him when he was 14 years old... I wonder how much bigger he will get and if he'll lose a step.

Here are his Freshman stats...This is 5A ball in New Orleans so it's very, very good competition...

    1834 yards, 8.3 ypc.. 25 TD's

I would put money down that Leo was the best player in the state this year as a freshman.

I'll tell you this much, if he can run like a pre-injury Greg Jones then LSU is going to be in good shape at RB.

Jones was going to win the Heisman (IMO) before he busted his leg all up. The guy was unbelievable.

Tough to say on that one. In the conversation, no doubt.

Jonathan Gray of Aledo is a terrific all-around back (run, catch, block) and has put it on the board big time. Of course, he has had two shoulder surgeries and has had a real heavy work load over four years on varsity.

I just love the attitude with which he runs. He's a run maximizer to a T. If/when he adds a little more high to low on contact, he will have even more power. He's running with a some hidden power right now even though he's a bull IMO.

I remember seeing him when he was in junior high when I was with ESPN watching St. Aug practice.
