Depends on what we're facing. Just ground troops? Sure. Do the invaders have aircraft? If so count me out of wanting to be in a skyscraper that's about to be blown up. I've served and I know that while militia and the like can be well trained that it would take much more to fend off an army the size of someone like........ Japan. If there where enough Americans trained that could withstand the initial onslaught without the will and spirit being broken then maybe that would provide enough time to train others. If we were back in the day between 1920-1960 then I think we'd do ok. The WW2 generation is the finestcollection of men and women in history. They sacrificed all. Even civilians did at that time as they felt like it was there patriotic duty to defend at home and abroad. This generation.......... I'm afraid too many battle strategies would be mapped out on Modern Warfare video games. Seriously, There is a Vast majority of Americans that are just pussies now. It's not even their fault. It's society has a whole. I'm just afraid you'd have too many Americans willing to lay down and surrender without fight.

I understand what you are saying, but I think the glass is half full. I believe that there is enough of the American spirit left (at least right now) that could blossom into an outright firestorm if it were fueled (we get invaded or otherwise).
To others points about well trained military taking out 1000s of civilians, you are a bit off. Hunters and vets understand guerrilla warfare very well. We know this country and its landscape and I believe our independent spirit is still alive. Combine all of these things and it would take an army greater than any one country has today to successfully invade and occupy the US.

Agree, also you have to understand that these old vets and any military left will help lead the armed civilians, to train them. The key would be finding and being able to use machines of war in less then comforatable circumstances. I believe that when the cards are down even the biggest puss will follow a grizzled leader and want to learn how to save his own life if not someone elses

Not saying it could happen, but I would assume anyone who was seriously attempting this would come with tanks and serious air support. It wouldn't be our guys with guns fighting their guys with guns.
It would be an armed military with weaponry and equipment designed to kill 10, 20, 100, 1000 of our soldiers at a time while protecting their 1, 3, or 10 soldiers operating the tanks and bombers they'd be using.
100, even 50 years ago, probably no chance. But a military these days is designed so that it only takes a handful of people to kill hundreds of the enemy. It wouldn't be us on foot, hiding in trees, and on roof tops just picking off a bunch of invaders on horses (assuming it's not Canada that we're talking about) as they ride by.
However.....I think we still have enough of the American spirit and ingenuity to figure it out and to eventually resist.
Or maybe I've just seen too many Transformers, Independence Day, etc movies where we always beat a superior enemy?
PS. And yes, Red Dawn is a timeless classic.

Basically it would probably end up like Vietnam. We had far superior leaders, strategists, equipment, tanks, guns and planes. But with all that, it was on their soil and we basically lost 80,000 troops and won nothing. Hopefully you are right an Americans would have half the heart they had. But this is a spoon fed society propped up by the government. Other countries fight to live on a daily basis. We fight for nothing.

I certainly hear you on the pessimism of soceity today. I just think that somewhere in everyones DNA lives that my country and my owns back is against the wall and when its all said and done americans will do what we have to do to survive, even if in this scenario its a little to late
