Story: So. Cal HS QBs and the Pros

No one's hype has ever exceeded Ron Powlus. People were talking about him winning possibly 4 heisman's while at Notre Dame.

Reminds me of I think it was Perrileaux (or however you spell his name) going to LSU and saying he was going to win four.

  • SoCal QBs seem to receive private QB coaching from a much younger age than all other regions.

The private QB coaching seems to allow the players to reach their ceiling much faster... but then they hit that ceiling and plateau. Once they plateau (like Barkley, for instance), the QB seems to start forcing things as if they expect more of themselves... but they can't take that next step and fall apart.

Sorry SoCal story: Abysmal run of QBs from region has NFL personnel searching for answers - Yahoo! Sports
From Yahoo! Sports: NFL scouts and executives aren't high on Matt Barkley after his decision to not
    throw at the NFL combine.

This writer Jason Cole is obviously an idiot. He has to be, to write this moronic article, and I'll prove it.

While there have been several QB bust from the Southern California region since 1983,
what this moron Cole fails to write is that you if you look at every region, the bust rate is typically
around 50% or worse for QB's. He cites 3 QB's from Texas, who all might end up very good,
as examples of success, but none of them have even been in the NFL for as more than 3 years.

Also, I like how Cole lists a bunch of 4th rd picks in his article. Can QB's drafted in the 4th round or later be considered busts? I certainly don't expect much from QB's who are 4th round picks or lower.

Cole uses QB's drafted since 1984.
OK - Here is a regional breakdown of QB's drafted since 1984

QB's that had an Approx Value of 60 or higher on ProFootball Reference.com player rankings
were considered to be successful. 35 QB's drafted since 1984 had an Approx Value of 60 or higher.

35-59 Approx Value I considered the middle ground (average), and anything
below 34 for a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick was considered to be a bust - unless
still active and drafted 2009 or later - not fair to judge just yet.

    Southern California

    6 Busts

    Northern California

    2 Busts

    Oklahoma
    1 in top 35
    0 Busts

    New Mexico
    1 in top 35
    0 Busts

As you can see, the southern California region has produced more successful QB's (5) than any other region.
Also like I said, most of the bust rates are about 50%. Although some regions like Georgia, Alabama, Ohio, and Texas have been Bust-Ville since 1984.

(Texas 1-Brees, & 10 Busts - really?) Haha - Texas was a state that that idiot writer Cole cited
as a success in his article. What a dummy.

Well hopefully Luck, RG3, and Dalton continue to have good years so that Texas QB's get back in the mix.

The moral of the story is... don't write idiotic articles like this Yahoo hack Jason Cole.

In the old Rivals.com Pit, Kevin Noon (now the rivals.com Ohio state pub) used to do a great Beano Cook impression. We'd have him breakdown quarterbacks and their future all the time in his Beano voice.

All I know is that USC QBs could never get it done in the pros. If the QB is from Cali and actually did something decent in the NFL it is likely because of their non-Trojan college career.

Ya, I can tell that you don't know much, but I figured you at least knew that when Kerry Collins is the best NFL QB your school has produced, you should just stay quiet. You know, like the Penn St coaches did.

Except your silence would be to avoid embarrassment rather than cause embarrassment.

Actually I said that guys that weren't above the 60 Approx Value mark yet but were drafted 2009 or after and are still active would not be included. So Stafford, Dalton, RG3, Luck, and Tannehill aren't included.

Stafford's close, about 2 more good years away, but it would be stupid (like the guy who wrote that article) to consider a QB an NFL success after only 1 or 2 seasons.

Brees is the 1 Texas QB who is obviously a success. If the rest of those guys pan out, Texas QB's will almost be
at the level of SoCal QB's, but Texas will still have about twice as many busts.

    Btw, thanks for the compliment.

Well, let's make a count here....

    Super Bowl Appearances:

    Kerry Collins: 1
    USC QBs Combined: 0

    All-Time Passing Yards

Kerry Collins: 12th all time - 40,922 yards
    USC's Highest = Carson Palmer: 40th all time - 29,465

LOL at USC and their crappy QBs. They get to the NFL and suck ass.

EDIT: And lol at you for referencing a PSU QB that has a better NFL career than any USC QB. What a tool you are!

LMAO at you for using total yards as the end all be all for QB's and for referencing a Super Bowl that was a blowout loss for your QB.

Carson Palmer is twice the QB your alcoholic QBCollins was, better TD/INT ratio, better completion %, better W-L record, better everything, and 2-3 more years and he will have more total yards as well. You really are a dumbchit.

You know so many great QB's have come out of PA. Marino, Kelly, Montana, Ryan, etc. and they all have 1 thing in common. They avoided Penn St like the plague, similar to how the Penn St defense avoided playing any D vs Sanchez and USC in the '08 Rose Bowl.
Sanchez threw for what, like 8 or 9TD's before halftime.

    Keep posting, please.

Tell us all about the 1 QB from the state of Florida currently in the NFL, and he's a better FB than a QB.

Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Carson Palmer, Colin Kaepernick, Alex Smith vs Tebow.

Fact is California has produced 16 of the top 60 NFL QB's over the last 30 years and Florida has produced Jeff Blake, D. Culpepper, and Brian Griese.

3 QB's in 30 years!?? Wow, why can't Florida produce any good QB's Nova? That's truly shitty.
