That's what I meant but should have been more specific.

  • Michigan State's strongest: LB. Returns 2 full time, multiple-year starters and 1 part time starter. Including Max Bullough at MLB, who should be a contender for lots of national honors.

Weakest: Offensive line. Has been poor the past few years, but in large part to multiple injuries to starters.

  • Strongest: LBs - 2 returning starters and 2 sophomores who both saw significant playing time. Probably a battle of 3 guys for 2 spots with Jake Ryan taking the 3rd spot

Weakest: Lewan returning makes me hesitant to put OL, so I will go with CBs. Routinely got burned deep last year by WRs just that QBs would overthrow the WRs. That didn't happen in the SC game and you saw the results. Blake Countess returning from season long injury should help though.

I was going to say QB for MSU.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

It seemed like injuries were a huge problem this year for many teams. Bama lost three impact players for the season very early as well. (DeAndre White, Dee Hart, Jalston Fowler etc)

I think that's up there... but at least it's an open competition now and there are 3 different guys who could end up starting. In most of our games, the much maligned Andrew Maxwell played well enough to win. But the weak OL and unreliable WRs really exaggerated Maxwell's shortcomings. A good OL is the building block of a good offense.

Yes, but few teams have the depth and talent that Bama has. Certainly not MSU's OL.

Well there's truth to that as well. We're actually losing three OL starters to the draft. Will be really interesting to see how the next years group progresses. Won't be easy to replace Warmack, Jones and Fluker.

  • Strongest - RB's
Weakest - secondary - we wont be particularly weak there but i say this because you dont lost Banks and Slay and not have a fall off
Weakest2 - WR's - ditto after losing 5 senior receivers - our wr's will be more talented but have very little experience. that always shows in big games

I think our WRs will be more of a problem than our CBs. Blake Countess' return cannot be overstated, and right now our only WR that I would routinely trust on the field is Jeremy Gallon.

I was thinking of that too, however I decided to go with CBs because outside of Countess I don't trust our CBs. Add to the fact that we don't know how well Countess will return from injury and that makes it a crapshoot to me.

For WRs Gallon did well with Gardner as QB and Dileo also had some success there. So like Lewan keeping OL out of the weakest spot for me, Gallon kept WR out as well.

Granted I don't like OL, WR or CB as it is and want to see how spring and fall ball goes to help answer some of my questions.

Yea, MSU went through 9 OL this year; at one point they had a RS FR OG starting at LT for the UM game. Barret Jones, he was not lol (though he didn't play too poorly). I fully admit MSU doesn't have the depth to overcome the loss of 3-4 OL starters in one year.

As a lifelong Bama fan I assure you we've been there and it wasn't too long ago. Football has a way of naturally cycling the wash. We won't be on top forever and it may be you guys we're all talking about next.
