Summer Soccer Transfer Window Discussion....

  • I am willing to bump this so just go ahead and join in.

Biggest movers and shakers will be Paris St Germain and Manchester City with Chelsea in 3rd.

I truly believe PSG will add Kaka as well as Gonzalo Higuain. Also seems like E. Adebayor is destined for Paris.
They will likely add two fullbacks as well. T.Motta at DMF backing up Kaka and Pastore with Higuain, Nene and Adebayor up top would make PSG a favorite to win the Ligue 1 by as many as 10 pts IYAM. Good for soccer that Paris will finally have a powerhouse team.

Manchester City has to sell Balotelli IYAM and I'd also sell Tevez. Their brand is exploding and a tremendous team formed. Caustic personalities like those two are the quickest way to derail what could be a special run. I'd say, realistically, sell Balotelli, keep Tevez, add Eden Hazard which is going to happen and then try and add a guy like Edinson Cavani as a 3rd striker who is proven. They would then likely be selling off Dzeko, De Jong, Balotelli, and Kolarov.

Chelsea is likely going to sell Drogba, Malouda, and a couple other aging/overpaid stars. I think they still see another 2 good years out of Torres. They are likely going to be able to win the bid for Hulk who is going to be a superstar in England. Fantastic player, unique, and a tremendous guy/personality.

Madrid will sell Kaka and Higuain but I am not sure who they will get. Many are saying Robin Van Persie but I doubt that. He'll be 29 next year and after 10 underachieving years he blows the doors off? What are the odds you get two more years like that. RVP likely doesn't agree but I think he'd be shocked how he'd basically be their 2nd striker behind Benzema and would often be tapping in CR7s crosses and passes as the crowd cheers for Ronaldo.

I'm also intrigued with Barcelona. Most have them selling David Silva and Adriano to make a play for Gareth Bale. Not sure about that but Bale is a freak and a top 25 player regardless of position for the next 5 years. Tello and Cuenca emerging give them the versatility to sell a striker and not have to buy one.

    Thoughts?

  • That seems about right.

Watch out for any French player to end up in Montreal. Impact and Saputo have the money to shell out on an old DP.

Not familiar with that situation. Will have to look it up.

New franchise in MLS. Montreal of course is predominantly French-speaking part of Canada. They were linked to Drogba and Malouda in the winter window.

Main competition for those two are either smaller clubs in France on the cheap or the more cost-effective for Chelsea: selling them high to a league like MLS,Chinese SuperLeague or any Middle East league who need name recognition for short-term gain.

Where do you think Dempsey goes fsufsu?

Dempsey may well go to Arsenal. Which would be a MASSIVE achievement. Absolutely the biggest accomplishment for an American soccer talent ever to simply start a game for Arsenal.

  • Over/under: 18 year olds Arsene Wenger signs this summer, 3.5.

I'm hoping he fits into the formation change.

lol, he actually has done shockingly well with the money he's given. I honestly think they will double RVP's salary and keep him. They are adding Podolski. Wilshere missed all year and is one of the world's truly great prospects. Ramsey will be another year older and removed from his tragic injury. Arteta was a revelation. They have some pieces.

Aaron Ramsey is my favorite on Arsenal, but when I saw him break his leg I thought that he would never be the same. Must be hard to come back from an injury like that and go in hard for 50/50 balls with the image of your leg snapped in two still in your brain.

He's good. Wilshere is a freak though. Since the last time he played he was just 19 some people don't realize what the grown man version will look like. He's going to be amazing. Very Xavi-esque.

I think the EPL is pretty much Man City's to lose from now on. It must be nice to have a billionaires payroll to play with.

  • Going to be interesting to see who United bring in. Kagawa seems a likely signing, but who knows who else they will go after.

I'm not high on Kagawa, I wish they would have got wesley sneijder last year. They need some new midfeilders and maybe right back, I don't like Fabio or his brother.

Wait until PSG,Anzhi get there rosters full. They should dominate Ligue 1 and RPL. Easy road to UCL.

Kagawa would be a good signing. He is young, very talented and would be extremely cheap for his talent level since his contract is up. Sneijder would have cost way too much money and he is getting older and on the decline. I agree about United needing another outside back, but more so on the left than on the right. Rafael is going to be a very good player as he continues to mature and Jones and Smalling can both play right back as well. On the left United only have Evra as Fabio is going on loan and Evra needs some competition, the past two seasons he hasn't been that good. I'd like United to sign one outside back, a CM and a ST to replace Berbatov. I think CM is the biggest need though and if they signed two CM's I'd be ok with that too.

  • On a different note who does everyone think is going to win Euro 2012? I'm going with Germany.

It's either them or Spain. That's the final imo.

The combinations are always a new dynamic every year. The Yankees and Real Madrid have proven you can't just buy championships. The EPL is also too competitive and a single untimely injury will give someone else, like MANU or Chelsea the title any given year.

Abromonovich will bring the heat this summer and get their issues fixed.

I really feel like Anzhi is going nowhere. It's one thing resurrecting Parisian soccer when they are on the west coast of mainland Europe and in one of the world's 5 most meaningful cities. Anzi is in Russia and totally devoid of any draw aside from money.

Malaga of Spain is a more likely 2ndary project to follow. They too have new, billionaire ownership and are a desirable city in a great league.

I think Getafe had a new, rich owner as well.
Hopefully they can break up the duopoly in La Liga.

I hate Arsenal and Deuce is my favorite American player so that would kind of suck for me.

  • Demba Ba currently favored to go to Chelsea.

I'm also intrigued by super prospect Romelu Lukaku of Chelsea. They totally mismanaged him this year but he's 18 and a phenomenal prospect. Every bit the talent Drogba was.

  • Lukaku should have been sent out on loan, likely to a French team or a team like Sunderland for this year and likely next year. Instead he got like 140 minutes of playing time all year.

    He needs minutes and goals.
