Superlative Breakdown: Quarterbacks

How the nation's top quarterback prospects, including Penn State commit Christian Hackenberg who takes top honors in the release category, stack up in various categories.

  • Thanks, Gerry. Great breakdown.

Would have loved to get Waters to PSU, because I personally value accuracy the most for a QB.

I'm excited to see how Hackenberg develops within BOB's offense. And honestly, I'm intrigued to see how the offense might adjust given Hackenberg's arm strength. Matt McGloin didn't exactly have the strongest arm and while they did call more deep passes later in the season, I have a feeling adding that strong vertical element could really give defenses problems.

  • How is Shane Morris not on the list for strongest arm.

He's on the also considered list. And he has a very strong arm, and it especially shows up in the intermediate game every time I've seen him.

Before Waters made his decision, I was thinking it would have been unreal to have Waters and Hackenberg in the same class, and the way it would have set up as I'm big on freshman QB's getting the redshirt year. Still think Hack gets to redshirt, but Waters to Hackenberg would have been pretty scary at the QB position IMO.

  • Gerry, Cord Sandberg seems to be putting up great numbers while playing in on if the top divisions in high school football but yet he's not mentioned here and ranked lower than other dual threats. What's the knock on him?

Not a knock as its impossible to mention each and every QB on a list like this.

We like Cord S. quite a bit and I feel like he is a good fit scheme wise at Mississippi State should he make it to campus.

I doubt seriously he makes it to campus but I'm not really just questioning this article but just wondering why a player like Woulard who threw for 1334 yards with 14 TDs and 10 int as a junior is rated so much higher than Cord who threw for 2200 yards with 19 TDs and 4 Int his junior season and against tougher competition. I would compare senior stats but I can't find Woulards but I doubt they are better than Cord's 30 TDs and 1 int. I know you can't just look as stats so that's why I'm asking what's the knock on Cord that so many other dual threats are ranked higher than him?

    Lots of whining

There's a difference between whining and asking a question? Something tells me you don't have the common sense to know the difference. Cord has a less than 10 percent chance of even making it to college so 247 making him a 6 star wouldn't do anything but inflate MSU's recruiting numbers but absolutely nothing on the field so I couldn't care less about that. I'm just wondering what went into the discussion when ranking the players.

We like Woulard better/project him higher as a dual-threat and QB. He was a first year starter last season, and we really love his upside and where we think he is headed as a player/QB.

Doesn't mean we are always going to be correct, as its an inexact science based on prospects maximizing their ability, but we like/project Woulard more between the two. Woulard's size, quickness/speed, arm strength, etc...makes for a really high ceiling.

  • I remember cracking up over the summer when most posters accused the 247 staff living in Max's basement during those throwing session threads.

He looked pretty good in the one game I checked out this season and I think he won the gatorade player of the year award(not sure). Good call 247.
