Supreme Court to Take up Same-Sex Marriage

  • I can totally understand people being personally opposed to gay marriage. What I can't understand is people opposing it within the confines of US law.

  • Also, the idea that marriage originated in the Church is ludicrous. Marriage has been practiced essentially since the beginning of recorded history by people of all faiths.

If the Bible is truly the word of God, and these passages make it clear what God's stance on homosexuality is, then that's good enough for me. My vote will always be for God's will. God > human/church politics

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

Leviticus 18:22 - "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." (NIV)

U do realize that men like you wrote this and only claim that god told or influenced them to write it. That's what ur basing ur life off of. Some guy that swears some god told him to write that.........okay. (Slowly stepping away from you....)

I do have a question: If we say that marriage is completely a religious institution and that religious law should influence governmental law, why do we use Christian law over, say, Jewish or Muslim or Hindu et al? And why potentially one or a few Christian denominations over all the others?

Because this county was founded by I guess u could call them Catholics. If they were Muslims we would all be Muslims or jews or buddhist monks but Christians got here first.

Well yes I know why but that doesn't justify our modern laws bring completely based on one religion. I guess what I'm saying is that the statement "its in the bible" should not be a justification for legislation.

I guess one leads to the other, but I think it's more a question of simple present majority than origin. There are just more Christians in the United States than any other religion.

Yea I agree. I think no relegion should ever have any influence on any law. It clouds judgment and skews a persons views.

Right for a long time Christianity had the jump in this country other religions have moved in. I wish we were just all one people you know the human race. Get rid of all these relegions that separate and make us hate each other.

What are you son, some kind of hippie?!

But seriously, that's spot-on. I understand that religion offers comfort and reassurance to some people, but the hate and vitriol it inspires isn't worth it.

Ignorance makes people hate each other, not religion. Plenty of nonreligious people out there hating on others as well. There are plenty of "non religious" people out there hating on people because they believe in a religion.

If they are it's because of what we are talking about. Relegions tring to enforce their ways on everyday normal life

Best to know the facts before making misleading statements in a vacuum.

    http://www.equip.org/bible_answers/does-the-bible-promote-slavery/

I'm shocked that a christian website would want to portray the bible in the highest light.

1 Peter tells slaves to obey their masters. There isn't much condemnation of the social institution in the bible, only forms of mental and spiritual slavery.

This basically sums it up perfectly.

It's not like banning gay marriage has stopped gay people from getting together anyway. They are still moving in with one another and raising kids. Whats the problem with giving them legal rights?

Ignorant people hate for many reasons, religion is just one of those reasons.
