Supreme court ruling to come this week

That seems the most likely scenario.

But without the mandate, i don't see how it reduces costs so it definitely kills the "effectiveness" of the bill.

Good, now maybe all these jack asses can sit down and write it correctly.

Some sort of regulation I agree with. Forcing people to purchase standardized health care, I don't agree with at all.

It's a tough situation given how corrupt the health care and insurance businesses are. On the one hand you don't want to and can't force people to buy health insurance; you may end up bankrupting a large number of the lower class and there's no telling what the actual quality of the coverage would be. On the other hand, at least to me, healthcare is a right, not a privilege. It shouldn't matter if you make $10,000 a year or $10,000,000, we all deserve to have access to quality health care.

Call me an idealist if you want, but I just don't like flippantly discussing people's well-being.

Standardized health care is the worst there is. You have zero choice in who you get to see, and the quality sucks.

  • It's complete bs that people can choose not to buy healthcare, then they get sick and the rest of us are forced to pay for it. If you have healthcare then why the hell are you against a mandate?? You have it already, it doesn't affect you. If its some ideallgocal bs, then you need to put idealology aside and think about what benefits you. This law has already benefitted millions and a large portion of it hasn't gone into affect yet. It has benefitted anyone with a preexisting condition, any college student under the age of 26, and the hundreds of thousands to millions of people that just got refunds that total in the billions of dollars from their insurance company due to the 80/20 rule in the law.

I personally think there shouldn't be a mandate, but if you are poor insurance should be included in your welfare check somehow, as in give them a little less actual money in return for health insurance. Secondly, it your dumb enough not to have health insurance then I don't think you should be able to go to a hospital. I think they should say tough shit, should have gotten insurance. I think they should open up POS government funded clinics and hospitals that see only people with no insurance, then not allow them in our hospitals for people that are smart enough to have insurance. That would be cheaper for all parties involved than some alternatives.

You're talking to people that think an insurance mandate is socialized medicine. Let that sink in.

  • I know a ton of doctors that don't like it...and that's putting it mildly. On a side note, my wife is the primary nurse for a specialist. One thing they're doing is that everything has to go electronic (no more paper charts), and patient information is going to be accessible from hospitals/docs everywhere. While there are certainly some benefits to that, the application of this is a clusterf%$^. Sometimes you need a note in the margin of the chart. Every doctor wants different information in the workup of patients. It takes AGES to input, thereby slowing things to a crawl. It looks good in theory, but it's going to change things a lot in terms of wait times, occasional things missed, etc. I know some people don't like the profit motive, but it's going to hurt profitibility for docs and hospitals as well.

There will be a lot of HIPPA violations, too. Some nosey nurse/admin that wants to know why you look so pale can just pull your info up. They would lose their job if caught, but it's going to happen.

So poor people shouldn't have access to healthcare? There are a lot of things in this country that are determined by social status, income, locations, etc. when it comes to quality. Healthcare shouldn't be one of them.

This will save billions upon billions upon billions of dollars once implemented fully. Not to mention the lives it could potentially save because of doctors not being on the same page or not knowing about a diagnosis. It's baffling that they haven't gone fully electronic and set up one main sort of medical network for all dr and hospitals yet.

I didn't say that at all. I am saying the opposite. I agree with the parts of the law that give vouchers and discounts to people below a certain income level. I'm saying these people that are "anti government involvement" that wouldn't buy insurance because of obama care and the individual mandate shouldn't be fined for not buying insurance, they should just be turned away.

I agree that it has a huge upside. But I think they need to rethink the method. Paper charts with a person in a back office to enter the basics. Right now the timing and transfer of information from the nurse at work-up to the doc is not good at all.

Hospitals need to know about allergies, prior diagnosis, etc. They probably don't need every single note the doc wants to make in the margin (which is fine, because there's not really an online form for that), but the doc needs it and .. well .. there's not a place for that.

Yes. Tough shit. You shouldn't be poor in a country like the US. Minorities are given any and every opportunity to succeed. I just went through a 7-month job search (white, male, college grad). I had an interview and the guy interviewing me said, "It's tough for a white male to get a job right now. Everyone is catering to the minorities." Hell, at least he was honest.

Because people that chose not to buy it and then get sick affect my life and my money. I should not be affected bc of some jerkoff who thinks he's too good for insurance.

Yup. People that don't have insurance use the emergency room at their general doctor. This makes tax payers pay for their visits. It's retarded. Yes, retarded.megaphone

Are you kidding me with this? It's tough for everyone, but your position as a white, male, college grad is infinitely more privileged than 90% of minorities in the U.S. Minorities are not given "every opportunity to succeed," nor is everyone "catering to the minorities." If you think your race and gender are holding you back from getting a job, you are sadly mistaken. Your age, your lack of experience, and your socioeconomic status are the primary factors in preventing you from getting a job right now.

That would be the greatest thing that could happen. I definitely agree in a reform of health care, but not this route.

What would your ideal solution be?

Under Obamacare you are free to continue purchasing your own private insurance.

With the individual mandate, prices will go down because more people are buying insurance. Also, the government won't have to pay for uninsured people to get emergency care, as they currently do. In addition, things like Medicaid will be virtually eliminated because everyone will have insurance.

So basically you are pissed off because the government is making everyone buy something that you already buy, and in doing so lowering government costs (and therefore yours).

Think of it as the government making everyone buy cable. You already have it, and now yours is cheaper because everyone else has it. So what are you bitching about?

Because in the long run it will reduce government Health Care spending.

You are already forced to buy car insurance. Is this really any different.

Make everyone buy car insurance whether they have a car or not. Should make those of us that drive have cheaper insurance. After all at some point they will have a car.

But everyone will use the health care system eventually. Your logic only makes sense if people without insurance were not allowed to use hospitals and dr offices.
