Under Obamacare you are free to continue purchasing your own private insurance.

With the individual mandate, prices will go down because more people are buying insurance. Also, the government won't have to pay for uninsured people to get emergency care, as they currently do. In addition, things like Medicaid will be virtually eliminated because everyone will have insurance.

So basically you are pissed off because the government is making everyone buy something that you already buy, and in doing so lowering government costs (and therefore yours).

Think of it as the government making everyone buy cable. You already have it, and now yours is cheaper because everyone else has it. So what are you bitching about?

You honestly think Obama is so god like that he can write a bill that makes people who cannot afford insurance, suddenly able to afford it? That's the greatness of obamacare, a bill telling poor people to no longer be poor.

Umm seeing as how the law has subsidies And rebates That go to low income people to pay for insurance, yes I do.

Its nearly twice as expensive as originally thought bc the CBO had to score it assuming these big companies keep their insurance programs and not dropping them and paying a much smaller fine. When rescored it went from an estimated $900 billion to 1.76 trillion. It will likely cost even more than that bc they can only score on what they are told. Free health care isn't free.

What I do not understand is why we did not identify the people without Insurance, that wanted insurance, and address that need, rather than revise the entire healthcare system when 90-95% of the people had insurance.

I cut the hell out of my cost, and what my insurance company pays by switching to an HSA. May not work for everyone, but for me and many co-workers, it has been a great plan that makes me manage my account in a frugal and responsible way, while reducing cost for me and my insurance company. It seems making the HSA more attractive to more people would have been a great option. Instead, there have been changes to make it last attractive. That makes no sense.

What would your ideal solution be?

Let insurance companies compet across state lines for starters. Give people more options and let the FREE MARKET take care of it.

    Lol.

You do realize as ex-military that US taxpayers and China are subsidizing your healthcare. Granted you did more than some welfare queen to get it, but handouts are handouts my friend.

There really aren't any "hand-outs" in the bill except adding a couple of million people to welfare. The Individual Mandate isn't a handout. It actually requires people to pay into the system before using it when they are older.

I guess its not a "great bill" but we need to lower costs for those of us who actually pay monthly premiums like myself and others.

Not everyone gets to have the government pay their healthcare Mr. USMCAGbashful

How does that freedom of speech feel, show me a welfare, low rent person that signed on the line that was willing to die for your right to say what you just said no matter how effing stupid it was even though they did not know you, go milk your prostate

  • Btw, I am a disabled vet like the OP but I don't use my " benefits" because I have a job. Maybe the should try that ave in stead of driving 50,000 cars and getting fat while making babies. I saw someone get turned down trying to buy 2 " monster " drinks on his Link card and got turned down because the state of Illinois no longer will pay for that stuff. I almost got wood see him have to pay for his drinks

Thanks for your service. I agree that's good news on them cracking down on stuff like that. Here in SC they get perishable items on the cards walk out to the parking lot and come back in and say it smells funny. They then get store credit and head to the beer aisle. Sure some needed it but I wouldnt be surprised if half was abuse.

  • Guys, about everybody here wants good quality healtcare at a reasonable cost, and is willing to do their share. The problem is that a lot of people want something for nothing, and want to live off the system. We all would like a system that works fairly for everyone, but not everyone wants to contribute or do their share, and that is a problem. Ultimately, it comes to a question of do you find a way to treat deadbeats, or refuse them care. By deadbeats, I don't mean people that are struggling and have fallen on hard times, but people whose parents raped the system, and they intend to do the same. Tough questions, no easy answers.

Yes. Tough shit. You shouldn't be poor in a country like the US. Minorities are given any and every opportunity to succeed. I just went through a 7-month job search (white, male, college grad). I had an interview and the guy interviewing me said, "It's tough for a white male to get a job right now. Everyone is catering to the minorities." Hell, at least he was honest.

It's literally impossible for this country to not have poor people. Unless you want to start paying janitors $75,000 a year. Someone has to work those jobs.

If minimum wage was 75k/year, the price of everything would come up to meet it and it would be the same thing. But you're right, it is impossible to have 0 poor people.

Let's be honest, just about everyone in America is in the top 50% worldwide because a decent percentage of people in the world are literally starving to death.

The number is actually closer to 10%. Something like 95% of Americans are in the top 10-15% of the world population based on income.

I am ex military but only stayed in for 3 years. I have a job that I trained for in the Army. I should not be billed for someone else insurance bill because they chose to sit on their @ss and waste their life while I worked to make something for myself and family.

So, as a high school drop out, I should be able to work 40 hours a week at McDonalds and be paid as much as the guy working in commerical lending at the bank that has a masters in business administration?

Yes. With free health care, a government cell phone and subsidized cable or direct TV.
