  • I still go with Bama/Auburn. The hate in that one, on and off the field, is what rivalries are all about. I like a little hate with my rivalries. It's why LSU doesn't have a true rival. We don't really hate anyone.

Not really even regional... too many debatable rivalries in the south to be the #1 overall imo...

Who is FSUs biggest rival? Miami or UF
Who is UFs biggest rival? Ga or FSU
Who is GAs biggest rival? GT or UF
How many people outside of Alabama care about the Iron Bowl? And wouldn't a lot of people say Bamas biggest rival is Tenn?

So it kinda takes away from your rivalry when your own fans can't agree who your biggest rival is...Same thing with Michigan St/Michigan/tOSU or all of the ND rivalries.

So I would tend to just choose the one that has the most National coverage...although I don't know which rivalry that is.

By the way I consider Miami our biggest rival... But I hate UF... I think UF and Miami cost FSU more National title game appearances than any other rivalry combo at any school.... FSU had like 7 one loss seasons with every one of thos losses coming from either Miami or UF

I don't think this is true... Every Michigan fan I've ever spoke with views tOSU as our main rival. It's probably the same way with Buckeye fans viewing UofM as their arch-nemesis.

Well I almost put that rivalry as my number 1 until I thought about Michigan St.... So I guess that means UM/OSU is the biggest rivalry in CFB to me.

  • The only problem with the Iron Bowl is that there is hardly ever a season where both Alabama and Auburn are contenders in the same year. Maybe 2011 but other than that its like one is a national title contender and the other is just looking to get to a decent bowl. You could also play the upset factor and keeping the other from the title game, but history shows that the favorite in that game usually wins. But dont get me wrong there is still a lot of hate between the two and I know because I witness it firsthand everyday living in Mobile. It is still a very good rivalry. I think right now LSU/Bama are maybe a little bigger because the game means so much and usually the winner (or loser) is going to the title game, but the Iron Bowl is one of those pride games that leaves one team's fans smiling for a whole year, and the other getting picked on in that span. Nothing better than listening to 105.5 in the afternoon in Mobile and listening to the Auburn and Alabama fans going back and forth, with sometimes some bogus and farfetched comments lol.

The winner of that game the last three years has won the BCS.

True, but I'm going back almost ten years with my argument. Also, I said that the other was usually not a contender. You can say that the last 3 winners won the title, but Auburn wasn't a contender when Bama won their titles. I gave the game credit in 2010, but Alabama was out of title contention at that point.

This is another game (Mich/OSU) that is watered down because most of the time neither are on the same level of talent. That game hasn't been the same since the 06' season when both were unbeaten, and it was a great game as well. I mean, there is nothing you can do about it but the nation cares a little more when they are almost even in talent and coaching. In think it will be good this year because they are closer to equal. In that same breath, I'm sure in that region there is a lot of smack talk and hate going on.

but that's true of all rivalries mostly.

mich only had 1 season with fewer than 3 losses when osu won their titles, and that one had 2 loses and finished further back in polls than bama did in 10.

same thing for osu when mich won their titles, no less than 3 losses.

    using poll titles only, fwiw.

texas had 2 season with 2 loses when ou won, rest were all 4+.
ou only one 2 loss when texas won title, rest were 4+.

nd had 2 2-loss season when usc won, rest were 4+.
usc has 3 2 loss season when nd won title, but 2 of those also had a tie. rest were 3+.

only rivalries i could find where the only loss was to the rival who won champ involved fsu both times.

in 87 they lost to miami only, who won title.
and in 96 when uf beat fsu for title. was a rematch, btw.

Yeh I know. There is really nothing you can do about that which is why nationaly you don't care as much, but regionally you guys get excited about that certain rivalry no matter what the teams have.

Because before we had a board, we wanted to keep flame posts from MSU fans out of every single Michigan thread we had since we had no option than to post them on the main board.
I believe the first thread to reach 1,000,000 views was strictly a Michigan team thread.

I call BS, modern day rivalries might seem to be that way, but there seems to be something a lot more honorAble regarding the army navy game than watching Ohio and meechigan battle for the "we were relevant 40 years ago" bowl.

Jordan Shipley Kickoff Return Against o.u....

Mobilehoma just scored their second TD to go up 14 to 3. The o.u. crowd is pumped and chants "bone a sooner" (yeah, I know what it says, but I'm not saying it!). All the momentum is on the mobilehoma side. Then, the o.u. chants cease and disbelief overtakes them as Jordan Shipley returns the next kick off 96 yards for a TD. The instant mobilehoma momentum drop is EPIC!!
