Funny...enough people care that half of the most watched televised CFB games of all time is USC vs Notre Dame.

people watch usc/nd in the big games because everyone watches all the big game between top teams, and nd and usc have been top teams more times than not.

but it's not because we care about the rivalry (again, i do, i enjoy it, it's a fantastic game each year).

nobody watches the games when the teams are crappy except those fans who cheer for either nd or usc.

same goes for mich/osu, bama/au, etc.

I still go with Bama/Auburn. The hate in that one, on and off the field, is what rivalries are all about. I like a little hate with my rivalries. It's why LSU doesn't have a true rival. We don't really hate anyone.

I live in Nola, and have worked in Jefferson and St. Bernard Parish. And I'll definitely disagree with the last part, y'all definitely have hate Bama. I'm in the construction industry, so the guys can be more intense, but I've had a few incidents. I won't wear my Bama hat in a restaurant while getting lunch.

Of course you don't..but it's even in wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_Dame%E2%80%93USC_football_rivalry

"Also of note is that ND and USC games count for five of the ten most-watched college football games in television history."

*USC hired a Nashville based company to "tell the story" of USC tradition for the new McKay Center, and this is what they researched...sorry, but from a rival site....

"It's about a lot of things, this new $70 million McKay Center.

About taking care of athletes, getting them smart and strong and healthy and happy and well-fed and getting them together with one another and their coaches and it's for all 650 of them from 21 teams, as the striking entrance lobby mural from Malibu's El Matador Beach makes clear.

Above and through it all is the man named McKay, here on display on the nearly 500 square feet of video wall in the front lobby framed by the stairways.

But it's about more than that, much more, says John Roberson, the CEO of Advent, the Nashville, Tenn.-based company hired to tell USC's story -- and the McKay story and so many others.

"Seventy stories in all," Roberson was saying on Tuesday's media tour before the 6 p.m. dedication for more than 500 special guests.

Because as much as you want them to meet one another, and get connected through the state-of-the-art computer labs that in contrast to McKay's Collegiate Romanesque outside, make for an all creative cutting-edge glass and openness inside, USC wanted them to get connected to something else.

But don't forget the gardens and patios and landscaping and turf field for the entire community, recreation, intramurals and the neighborhood that surrounds McKay.

They're all ways to connect everyone to the USC family of nearly 300,000 and to all their stories. And the one story. The Trojan story. And how they are part of it. Or will be when you factor in the way Lane Kiffin surely plans to use what he has here now.

Roberson's Advent has done more than 50 of these college jobs, most recently for the likes of Harvard, Mississippi State and Texas A & M. But after a solid year here with USC, and with all 40 employees on it, Roberson says USC is different.

"No place I'd ever been have they had so much of a story to tell and it's been so undertold," Roberson was saying of the Trojan story. "Now Oregon can fabricate and display a story and make it look great, but USC has a great story to tell."

    * Seven of the 12 all-time top-rated TV games have involved USC.
    * The 1968 USC-Notre Dame game is still the most-watched college football game ever.
    * USC has hosted ESPN's GameDay eight times, more than anyone else.
    * USC's 278 national TV games are the second-most all-time.
    * USC's 20 ESPN GameDay games are fourth all-time.

No, but most were..hence the importance of the rivalry nationally..isn't that the theme of this thread? Between two private universities, that together, make up a smaller alumni base of one university alone, in other rivalries.

USC was also part of the most watched National Championship game in TV history.

  • USC / ND is a good rivalry. Certainly not great.

Couple the fact ND has been very mediocre going on 25 years now and the game has zero significance in regard to a conference title and it's pretty meh, imo.

I remember very well when Michigan used to beat your ass down, don't act like your rivalry has always had a dominant tOSU.

All rivalries have their peaks and valleys, yours is no different. But I do think the tOSU/Michigan rivalry is the greatest all time.

USC vs Notre Dame is unique, because it has was no reason to be, save the major power on the east coast, and the major power on the west coast in the 1920s wanted to play the best of the best. There is no other rivalry like it, our two programs did something never done before, nor since.

USC's 20 ESPN GameDay games are fourth all-time.

don't know about the rest of that, but this isn't accurate.

osu leads host sites with 13
    miami with 11
uf and rose bowl with 10
    bama and mich with 9
    lsu with 8
nd, usc and tenn with 7

now that was before last season, so some of those have likely changed some, but not enough to put usc at #1.

and uf has the most appearances at 32. osu follows with 29. doesn't list down further.

We now have a confirmation of the consistency of SEC math...USC should have selected a firm in the west vs the south to correctly tell the story of USC football. lol

Yeah, right...I quit when it said "vote for the best"....Michigan alone has a larger undergrad population that USC and Notre Dame combined, lol. I never vote those polls, just sit back and laugh at all that do as some kind of self validation that they're the best.

  • of course im bias, but to me its osu/um...

however, as a college football fan in general, i look forward to all the great rivalries; tex/ou, usc/nd, bama/au, fsu/miami, etc...

even when 1 or both teams may be down or there is no real significance in the game (conf. or natl ramifications) i still tune in for the game...

you cant beat the hitting and hatred in those matchups!!!!

USC and Notre Dame just isn't that interesting.. Not even an LA writer would put them over UM/OSU or AU/UA shrug

yawn. lived in ann arbor and ohio 18 years...um/osu is a one week a year rivalry...Bama auburn is 24/7 365. i grew up walking the sidelines of bo's practices and um games. family very connected to um athletic dept...football in michigan/ohio is night and day compared to the passion of football in alabama.

those cincy moeller boys couldn't believe what it was like going to the iron bowl...befor and after the game, they were like...'this is insanity'.

look osu much is great...i eat sausage and drink bloody mary's in the am while i'm watching it.
