You forgot about Sharp. I put Samsung and Sharp at the top followed by Sony, LG and Phillips. Panasonic is good if he wanted to go Plasma.

You're right. I forgot to add Sharp. My bad.
Just stay away from Visio, Sanyo, and Westinghouse haha.

Sharp before Sony? That's laughable. Samsung might be up there with Sony but not Sharp.

Basically the things to look for are 1080 resolution, at least 120hz, 240hz is better but the difference between 120 and 240 isn't as large as 60hz and 120hz.
I would stay with Samsung or Sharp. LG is pretty good too
Me personally 3D isn't anything I would watch so I'm not going to pay extra for something I'm not going to use. The built in Wifi for smart TVs is pretty cool but I don't necessarily need it.
