***Taco Charlton

  • Guys, I have been getting messages about Taco Charlton and his showing at The Opening because of other reports that state he struggled.

I watched nearly every rep of one-on-ones on Saturday and he won way more than he lost. He was extremely quick off the ball, has a huge frame and was one of the better defensive ends there, even though he wasn't allowed to work out in pads. My staff- Gerry Hamilton, Steve Wiltfong, Barton Simmons and everybody else that was there will back that up because they watched him, too.

I am not saying that what the other writer said was inaccurate. These events are difficult to cover, especially when you really only have one guy there evaluating players. I am not trying to throw anybody under the bus as they may have watched him in a bad rep or two. But, that's certainly not what we saw.

With that, we didn't really move him up because it wasn't like his reps were in pads. Ohio high school rules prevented him from doing the full drills.

So please don't come at us with "how can you rank him here when he had a bad showing" because the facts are that he didn't. Fact is, you can make a stronger argument about him being less than stellar in pads for his high school team than you can about Taco in a camp setting. For that reason, I understand the strong opinions on him as a prospect, but he absolutely did not struggle at The Opening and was in fact very good.

Just wanted to clarify that. Thanks for visiting 247Sports.

Even as a Michigan fan I can certainly see why people get so mad about his high rating when you look at his tape. But as you guys always say these are projections and I gotta believe this 6'6" 250 pound athletic freak projects pretty well at the next level when he taps into all of that potential.

  • I take it you guys have been receiving stuff from Bucknuts that are angry about Jalin Marshall and some Rivals guys?

  • How could you ever argue the ranking of a guy named Taco. I want him on my team!

  • Thanks JC.

Maybe he'll be good enough to start for his high school team this fall.

    Fingers crossed!!

  • JC -

On Jalin Marshall, was he dropped based on his disappointing 40 time?

I'd assume you are smart enough to realize that a kid playing the WR position for the first time, who is going up against the best DB's in the country, is going to struggle somewhat.

No, it's been a cross-section of fans- not just Ohio State.

Wow, they blew you up to the point where you started a thread and discredited what every one of those buckeye recruiting experts was saying in the thread about taco. Well done.

  • I watched the OL/DL very carefully throughout the weekend. Taco lost a couple but definitely won a lot more than he lost. He was clearly one of the best pass-rushing ends at the event even though he couldn't take quite as many reps because he was unpadded.

So your saying the "unpadded" rule was not just for Georgia kids.... Good to know

  • Taco continues to troll the OSU fan base. I'll never understand grown men who complain about how good (or not) a high school kid is at playing football.

There are four states with this rule. GA, MI, OH and I forget the 4th.

Not sure why those four havent changed.

  • UM is so screwed now. Their ceiling is 13 wins at best. The floor remains at 12.
