Then who would cover half your commits?

Can't hate on Ohio if you're gonna allow them on your team, duh.

Michigan tries to take in as many as they can to save them from that awful state, but they can't take them all. I feel bad for those poor souls who get shut out.

You took a mental picture for your spank bank first. Don't lie!

Anyhow, I'm done checking this thread if we aren't discussing football anymore.

    JC -

On Jalin Marshall, was he dropped based on his disappointing 40 time?

I'd assume you are smart enough to realize that a kid playing the WR position for the first time, who is going up against the best DB's in the country, is going to struggle somewhat.

    Bueller? Bueller?

  • ESPN/Nike camp employee Nick Ekbatani who runs the Nike camp lineman drills across the entire US and at The Opening had this to say about Taco when I asked him how he felt he did on twitter.

@JHopkins247 Taco was awesome! Padded tackles were very lucky he wasn't allowed to pad up. Same can be said for T Shamire Devine.

    I said "used to spend"

"Used to" expresses the idea that something was an old habit that stopped in the past. It indicates that something was often repeated in the past, but it is not usually done now.

Since you wanting to be so technical, your question was whether I was paid to evaluate high school football talent not what I was paid to do.

Not being paid to do something does not mean I cannot do it. It can also mean I had no desire to be paid to do it. At the same time, it doesn't take an expert to see that Taco was very limited in the amount of moves he was effective in using in those drills. I've said in the past I have no problem with them ranking Taco where he is based on projections and not on his current skill level. I would not have dropped him based on what I saw at The Opening either. He is probably projected a little higher than he should be, but it is hard to argue "projections" vs current abilities.

My mistake. Not used to reading small fonts on the mobile site.

So what are your credentials wrt talent evaluation? I respect differing opinions, but it'd be nice to hear what makes yours (or anyone's) more valid than the 247 staff.

  • Coming from a Buckeye, I wish Taco The best & success in life. Bottom line, he is getting a free education at a premier institution. All pettiness aside...

Jalin Marshall dominated Ohio D1 HS football as a junior. Taco Charleton did not. Not even anywhere in the same Hemisphere. That is a fact and has more relevance in future success than two hand touch summer football.

I got an idea. Instead of trying to challenge what makes my opinion valid, why don't you challenge my opinion. I've said he was one dimensional and only used his speed to beat OL in his 1:1 reps. I also said that any time OL were able to get ahold of him (give him a good punch or were fast enough to get in front of him) he was torn up.

The whole base of this conversation is really about where he is ranked and whether he performed well or poorly at The Opening.

    1. I've said he is ranked about right based on "projections" only, but not on how he has performed in HS or in The Opening for example.

    2. I've said he performed up to expectations at The Opening. People have based their projections off of his athleticism and size. He showed his speed and athleticism at The Opening that was expected. However, he didn't show anything else to me. I wouldn't expect him to be raised or lowered on anyone's rankings based on The Opening. Dennis Green line here. He was who we thought he was. No matter how low or high you had him ranked in your rankings he didn't do anything to change that.

I'm sure you don't keep track of the developments at OSU so I won't blame you for not knowing. We are sitting on more talent at O-line than we have for the past 10 years. Had a great year last year with O-Line recruiting. To top it off, we had such a great run on the D-line over the last 3 years that we are moving some of the D-Line over to O-Line. You guys should be very afraid that we don't have walk ons in our two deep anymore. All 15 O-linemen will be on scholarship.

Looks at you guys! You have such a lack of OL bodies you have converted DL to OL to go along with converted TEs!

Also, OSU's OL recruiting last year was not great, it was average.

Check your sources - "Potential" will NEVER outweigh "accomplishments". Not in Ohio, not anywhere.

Call it a surpluss of DL bodies and you have it right. Let me know when you guys figure out how to get 10 O-Linemen out on the field at the same time.

Guess we can wait to settle this on the field come november.

It's called depth. Don't need to everyone out there, need the depth, especially on the OL where injuries are common place and it's great to have players to plug in when someone gets tired who are just as good as the other guy.

It's not surplus of DL, it's lack of OL.

  • This is all I'm going to say on the topic......This isn't a big deal at all, it's freaking rankings of high schoolers....but....I think you (247 Staff) should take into consideration more of what Ohio experts say on the topic. Not that I think you aren't the best overall chef in the kitchen, but listen to the one guy who is really really good at making pizza if you are about to make a pizza.....know what I'm saying?
