Team rankings recruiting

  • I would be surprised if FSU doesn't finish with a top 5 class. Several of our lesser known commitments are likely to receive big jumps in the rankings and we will finish strong, especially with a good season.

Apparently under the rules, SEC teams can sign 25 LOIs per year plus take as many EEs as they can fit. That adds up to 100+ LOIs every four years.

wrong. you can take 25 guys each class. Counting early enrollement as a LOI for the previous class you can only take 25 LOI's per class. that comes out to 100 every 4 classes/years. Either way we take what gets us to 85, and no more. This year we will probably take around 30.

the term "committable offer" is a bs safety net that $ec!$ec!$ec! coaches created to cover their asses. it allows them to offer 100+ kids and not have to honor their offer. it's a safety net so that they can continue to chase bigger fish.

bottom line is that it's a bullshlt practice. if you offer a kid, honor the offer.

The term commitable offer is given in situations where you have 1 opening a RB and you inform 5 players with offers that there is 1 opening. When 1 commits the other 4 do not have commitable offers anymore. This is not just SEC, it's college football. As far as you claiming it's a safety net to get the better guy, you have no clue what you are talking about. If we have 1 spot for 5 offers, the first commit gets that spot. Many coaches give offers if and only if the kid commits on the spot. Once again, this is not SEC, its college football.

    what's your point?

you tried to claim that uga did not offer as many players in 2012 because of the quality of the players in the 2013 class. in fact, uga offered more players in 2012 than it did in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

that is one example. unfortunately, that's not the prevalent use of the practice/term.

alabama offered 24 defensive tackles in 2012. many of whom they had never seen in person, and had never been to tuscaloosa. that's carpetbombing offers to appear as if there is limited space and giving the impression the school in interested if they miss out on the top guys.

mississippi state currently has 232 offers out. that's carpetbombing and covering their ass because they know they have zero chance at 90% of them.

my point is and this should be understood that these scouting services don't have accurate counts of scholarships. They usually will inform you of that. Most decide who has a offer based off what kids tell them.
The truth is we probably offer many more than 117 last year, but it was not more than the previous or this year.
I'm not sure why you are arguing this. Are you at all familiar with Georgia's recruiting? You seem like you just want to argue to argue. In 2012 we had room from 20-21 players. in 2011 we had room for 28. Do you seriously think we offered more in 2012 than 2011 or is this all just a "I'm gonna argue to pass time"?

If your comparing UGA and Alabama as far as recruiting methods go then you are way off base. And as far as offering kids before they arrive to campuses that's how recruiting works. Recruits get rated by scouting services and one rating is offer w/o visit, meaning he is good enough that you had better offer early, you don't need the visit. There is a rating that indicates to offer w/o visit iff its a postion of need. That's what scouting services do, and that how all colleges use them.
