His instincts are what will help him in the NFL. If your inside linebacker has to run more than the first 20 yards... You have bigger problems. Mike Singletary anyone? I'm sure most of your instinctual ILB's like Singletary were more valued because of their smarts, and instincts.

Frankly, I don't see elite instincts when I watch Te'o. ILBs with elite instincts should be tackling machines. Te'o really isn't. Ogletree had more tackles in 10 games than Te'o had in 13. Minter also made many more tackles than Te'o with the same amount of games. I chose those two because they seem to be the other ILBs in 1st round consideration
People point to the interceptions, but I see a lot of good fortune. Lots of tipped passes and bad throws (looking at you Denard). Actually a few tipped pass int's where Te'o was beat, someone happened to tip it, and he happened to be Johnny on the spot by being beat.
He has solid instincts, but nowhere close to elite, IMO. He can be a solid ILB in the right system, but he's not worth the circus.
In today's pass-first NFL, I would value a LB who is comfortable in space, both in pass coverage and tackling. Te'o is clearly not that guy, and Ogletree and Minter are good in space (Ogletree is elite in space) and are just as good as Te'o as run defenders. Minter is better than Ogletree in this regard.
Basically: in space/coverage: Ogletree>>Minter>>>>Te'o
front-line run support: Minter>Ogletree=Te'oBurydaBone

Stress???? So what's he going to do in the NFL where EVERY game is full of stress??
No wonder he sucked in the Bama game, dude is a p*ssy with absolutely no balls.
There's so much wrong with this kid on top of average at best athletic ability that whoever drafts him in the 1st rd will be getting a sure fire bust.

I doubt every game he plays in the NFL will be followed by an interview with Katie Couric. Not to mention, he's dealing with more media scrutiny and harassment than all of the other players at the combine out together excluding your boy the Honeybadger. I think that pressure could affect him at the combine where a lot of guys struggle with the pressure under normal circumstances a lot more than on the field doing something he's done his whole life.
He's a great college linebacker who will be an average to maybe above average NFL linebacker. There's no shame in that. The kid is incredibly naive, comes off like a 12 year old, may very well be gay, and will be a huge locker room distraction. If ESPN would just give it a rest with the constant Teo coverage that no one cares about then the distraction would be a whole lot less. But the concerns are real. I just think you're all going a bit overboard with the 5th rounder at best and complete fraud stuff. Its comparable to Tebow where people just get sick of seeing his every insignificant move and start hating him for things that aren't really his fault.
Did he bring this all on himself? Of course. But at this point I just feel bad for the guy. Just leave him alone, I honestly don't care about Lennay Kekua and haven't for months.

I think it is perfect for ESPN. Now they get to cover how far he falls down the draft. He will be the last guy sitting back in the curtained off room, ala Colt McCoy, until he is drafted in an overly embarrassing position. They will hammer home how he was a top ten guy three months ago then relive the fall from grace.
The bigger they are, the harder they fall. ESPN loves it.
