His instincts are what will help him in the NFL. If your inside linebacker has to run more than the first 20 yards... You have bigger problems. Mike Singletary anyone? I'm sure most of your instinctual ILB's like Singletary were more valued because of their smarts, and instincts.

Oh please, all he does is guess on every play. Have you seen him try to fight through a block? (he can't) Have you seen him try to make a form tackle? (he drops his head and looks terrible) The guy stinks and was dumb enough to get tricked by some USC fan. He shouldn't be touched before the 5th round. You would be a fool to give him 4th rd or better money.

Te’o blames slow 40 time on Combine stress | ProFootballTalk

Former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Teo has refused to blame his poor performance during the BCS national title game on the stress resulting from the knowledge that, inevitably, the story of his fake dead girlfriend would be exposed.

The media wanted him to win. ESPN is the fraud. Teo is just an avg. 5th rounder with make believe friends.

Frankly, I don't see elite instincts when I watch Te'o. ILBs with elite instincts should be tackling machines. Te'o really isn't. Ogletree had more tackles in 10 games than Te'o had in 13. Minter also made many more tackles than Te'o with the same amount of games. I chose those two because they seem to be the other ILBs in 1st round consideration

People point to the interceptions, but I see a lot of good fortune. Lots of tipped passes and bad throws (looking at you Denard). Actually a few tipped pass int's where Te'o was beat, someone happened to tip it, and he happened to be Johnny on the spot by being beat.

He has solid instincts, but nowhere close to elite, IMO. He can be a solid ILB in the right system, but he's not worth the circus.

In today's pass-first NFL, I would value a LB who is comfortable in space, both in pass coverage and tackling. Te'o is clearly not that guy, and Ogletree and Minter are good in space (Ogletree is elite in space) and are just as good as Te'o as run defenders. Minter is better than Ogletree in this regard.

    Basically: in space/coverage: Ogletree>>Minter>>>>Te'o
    front-line run support: Minter>Ogletree=Te'o

It's a good thing that the NFL is a stress-free league.... lol

What a fraud this guy is. Seriously, I have never seen a bigger fraud coming out of college. 2nd in the Heisman? Awards out the ass? Embarrassing.

    +1, awesome GIF

Also, I can't for the life of me figure out why Minter gets no praise from these so called "experts". He produced and had better numbers than most and he had his better games against the best teams we played.

Plus, Minter is a big, big dude that understands the game.. Reminds me of London Fletchee, kid just makes tackle after tackle all day.

I'm a huge homer but I still don't get how underrated he is going into the draft.. Anyways, there's always a few guys like this every year that end up being STUDS in the NFL.

No lie, I honestly believe myself and a few others on this board could truly make better draft picks than some of these NFL teams.. Like KC picking Poe for the 9th pick last year? C'mon, no way I would've even thought about that.

Stress???? So what's he going to do in the NFL where EVERY game is full of stress??

No wonder he sucked in the Bama game, dude is a p*ssy with absolutely no balls.

There's so much wrong with this kid on top of average at best athletic ability that whoever drafts him in the 1st rd will be getting a sure fire bust.

I doubt every game he plays in the NFL will be followed by an interview with Katie Couric. Not to mention, he's dealing with more media scrutiny and harassment than all of the other players at the combine out together excluding your boy the Honeybadger. I think that pressure could affect him at the combine where a lot of guys struggle with the pressure under normal circumstances a lot more than on the field doing something he's done his whole life.

He's a great college linebacker who will be an average to maybe above average NFL linebacker. There's no shame in that. The kid is incredibly naive, comes off like a 12 year old, may very well be gay, and will be a huge locker room distraction. If ESPN would just give it a rest with the constant Teo coverage that no one cares about then the distraction would be a whole lot less. But the concerns are real. I just think you're all going a bit overboard with the 5th rounder at best and complete fraud stuff. Its comparable to Tebow where people just get sick of seeing his every insignificant move and start hating him for things that aren't really his fault.

Did he bring this all on himself? Of course. But at this point I just feel bad for the guy. Just leave him alone, I honestly don't care about Lennay Kekua and haven't for months.

  • I think it is perfect for ESPN. Now they get to cover how far he falls down the draft. He will be the last guy sitting back in the curtained off room, ala Colt McCoy, until he is drafted in an overly embarrassing position. They will hammer home how he was a top ten guy three months ago then relive the fall from grace.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. ESPN loves it.

First let me say I'm not a Tebow fan, but he deserved his awards. Teo not so much. However your post is spot on. Unfortunately he will be a running joke for a minute. If the media hadn't made him something most knew he wasn't, and then to have the gf thing go down. Hate for him. +1 on a solid post bra.

He's very good. He's not average. You're hating on him now. He was helped out by his DL but most good LBers are. He was very productive and very good college LB. If he was an average LB in college he wouldn't sniff the NFL.
