Texas does not have the votes...

  • If Alabama had Texas' cash flow, they could afford to carry some debt.

Hard to say. Texas will only get in if the PAC-12 is willing to cut a special deal for the LHN. It isn't clear that they will be willing to do that. Texas could readily get in if the LHN were folded into the PAC-12's regional network programming, but Texas would never agree to that.

I say its 50-50 whether UT caves on LHN. I think OK and Okie St are headed West no matter what and it is very, very possible UT will end up cobbling together some new B12 for a few years while it tries to build up LHN. Might be a rough few years to be a Longhorn fan, either because games are not available on LHN or because they are and they're games no one wants to watch.

Why would we when we don't need to? That's got to be the stupidest thing I've ever read.

  • I think the odds Texas will cave are far less than 50/50. The odds that the PAC-12 will cave may be around 50/50. Money won't be the issue, but branding and content will. UT will end exceedingly well no matter which way things break. That is why they are in no rush. Can't think of a better time to be a Longhorn fan, especially with the LHN.

There are scenarios where financing is the better option.

    ALABAMA SEEKS STADIUM EXPANSION

Tuscaloosa, Ala. - An expansion of Bryant-Denny Stadium could be completed before the 2010 season, if everything falls into place, University of Alabama President Robert Witt said. UA trustees approved the look, estimated cost and scope of an expansion to the football stadium's south end zone, however, Witt said the project has not reached a point of no return. "A decision hasn't been made, but we want everything in place so that if we do decide to move forward it will be ready for fall 2010," Witt said after the meeting.

With an estimated price tag of $80.6 million, the project would expand the stadium's south end zone and increase Bryant-Denny Stadium's capacity to more than 101,000, according to documents given to trustees.

UA plans to pay for the expansion up front through debt, issuing a bond for the cost of construction. However, the expansion should more than pay for itself over time, according to board documents.
