  • Expect either coordinator to be let go? Just asking now that the season is over.

  • Brian Harsin took the Arky State job and has already been replaced by Major Applewhite.

I have to think they would look to replace Diaz.

Yeah, I am mostly interested in Diaz and just forgot the other one. I would really like Diaz to come back to FSU. He'd recruit Miami with Coley. Diaz is a great young coach, Texas just made a bad hire....not his fault. He isn't ready at all to be the DC at a school like Texas.

I didn't realize Diaz had coached at FSU. He would be a great assistant.

  • Would have to think we'd have to fight for him but we'd have an in and saved a good bit of money by Tennessee subsidizing Sunseri's salary. We could likely pay Diaz 325 to be the LBs coach. I think he gives us 2 years.

He did a solid job as the DC at Miss State. There is always the chance that someone gives him another shot at DC right away. Probably not though.

wut? As a full time replacement? This.......will not end well. He was basically fired by Saban after one year.

He is the OC, actually the Co-OC with Wyatt.
I said doubtful to the statement that Saban fired him at Bama.

Oh, really? He was our OC and left to take the RB coach position at Texas. He was told to find another job halfway through the season. That is not up for debate, brah. If you don't believe me, go ask the mods on your board. It's 100% the truth. He was awful.

  • "It is currently being mentioned in several circles that Saban did not want Applewhite to continue as offensive coordinator; to be sure, he apparently wanted him to continue in some capacity on the staff, but not in his current role"

"All of this, in all honesty, should come as no major surprise. When Applewhite was hired twelve months ago, he was hired with a great degree of hesitation on the part of Saban. When Applewhite was at Rice, he had full reins over the offense and implemented a full-blown spread attack. However, it was very obvious from the beginning that Saban was very concerned at the prospect of handing the entire offense over to a 29 year old kid, one with only four years of coaching experience, and only one year as a coordinator. So, the wary Saban decided to do something about it, and this is where Joe Pendry comes in"

"At this point, it seems readily apparent that Saban was not pleased, and is not pleased, as to how things worked out. Applewhite was not his first choice, but he was probably the best candidate on the board at the time, and Saban gave it a go. Unfortunately, things didn't really improve all that much. Yes, the offense was better in 2007 than it was in 2006 -- how could it have gotten any worse? -- but the improvement is not what we, and apparently Saban, expected. John Parker Wilson took a major step back, to put it mildly, the running game struggled from the Arkansas game on, and the offense simply sputtered out down the stretch."

Major Applewhite Commentary - Roll 'Bama Roll

As you all probably know by now, Major Applewhite is as good as gone to Texas by this point. So what of it? How did it come about, and why? Moreover, what effect will it have? To begin with, to...

Saban wanted a totally different offense then what Major wanted to coach. Saban wants grounds and pound, Major likes to push the tempo, go four wide. While he might have not fit at Bama it does not mean he is or will be a bad OC and play caller.

It means he was a terrible play caller. That and a terrible QB coach. Look, I don't want to sit here and argue this because I don't care enough. But tread the article I posted. The guy was a disaster from day one. Ask JM, our OC after Major what he thought of Major's QB coaching and mechanics. He said they were the worst he's ever seen. It's just a very strange hire in a year Mack needs to do really well. We will see...

So your saying that because he had a bad year as OC at Bama he is going to be a bad one for the rest of his career? He's not capable of learning from his experiences, especially because he was so young? Got it. Thanks for your insight as always Weedline.

And before you get it in your head that I think Major is the second coming or something; I just want to say that the book if very much still out on him, but I am excited about the possibilities his offense will bring. I'm not going to write him off like you after one subpar season at Bama when he has been successful at every other job he's had.

That seems pretty apparent with your programs lack of winning. You guys are the UGA of mid-America. Saban got rid of him after 2007. We lost to La Monroe in 2007 and had a terrible year. He, um, "left" for a better position as a RB coach. We then went on to be the top team in the country in 08' and have an undefeated regular season. Then a NC (you remember that one), then a 10 win season, then another NC. Now we are playing for another one. Whats the variable here?

Can he get better? Sure he can. Can he get THAT much better? Probably not. Would I base my 5 million dollar a year coaching job on his abilities like Mack Brown is about to do? Hell no. Nobody with a brain would. You hire a proven gun. Let him practice at Baylor or Rice then if he does well there, he can come back to UT. That's the mentality of most big programs. But Good luck guys, lots of eggs in one basket down there. We will see how that turns out.
