But seriously, this thread really came off the rails, didn't it? Just want to make a side note on Abortion. That Abortion continues to be a political football in elections is, quite frankly, retarded. In Roe v. Wade, and then subsequently in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, SCOTUS cemented a woman's right to an abortion in this country within the right to privacy found in earlier decisions. They found this right through both the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments. Short of every state calling a constitutional convention, then 2/3 of every state legislature voting to repeal both Amendments, THEN 2/3 of Congress doing the same, the Right to Abortion will never be repealed. Ever. Neither will SCOTUS overturn Casey (which reaffirmed Roe, among other things) under any circumstance. The societal blowback and outrage would be catastrophic and unbearable for the Court.
Can we please stop with this blatant sophistry about whether a woman's right to choose is somehow in danger when one party holds the presidency versus the other?

The ultimate purpose of sex is to reproduce, so naturally we are wired to be attracted to the opposite sex that we can reproduce with. So having sex with someone that we are incapable of reproducing with would seem unnatural. Now before you get all up in arms I am not homo-bashing here, by all means let people sleep with who they want. But that doesn't mean it's natural ,at least I don't see it that way. You asked my opinion, now get to your point.

He's making 175K soldiers pay co-pays.... I didn't say anything about welfare or politicians benefits. Got to start somewhere. it's not like they are taking away the health care. Just about every citizen that has health care has to pay a co pay. The repubs want less spending right? This is a savings. The doctors, medicine, facilities, and staff aren't free. Either the gov't can keep this ridiculous spending up or some people are going to have to start doing stuff without the gov'ts help. This is just somewhere to start and it seems pretty simple. Welfare is a very tangled mess right now. Someone needs to figure it out but you can't simply just cut all of welfare.

Your posts are F'in killing me. I have 12 years in (7+ active, rest reserves/guard and am in Afghanistan right now) and this will affect me quite a bit.
My wife just had our first son 10 months ago - on Tricare Prime, the total bill was around $500. On standard, we would have paid $535 per day in the hospital, plus 25% of all professional fees. So b/c there were minor complications, our bill would have been somewhere north of $3,000. Now one of the biggest reasons I joined the guard/reserves when I got off of active duty (sub officer - did 5 sub patrols) was the healthcare benefits. Now 12 years in to a 20 year gig (20 to retire), you want to change the rules on me.
I understand we need to make cuts in spending, but military benefits is near the bottom of the list for places to start. If you can't agree with this, GTFO of the US and never come back. You may not agree with how our leaders choose to use the military, but they guys and gals in uniform sacrifice a LOT and risk much MORE so that you and your family can sleep freely every night.
* Cut foregin aid * Stop paying farmers not to farm * Greatly reduce all federal welfare (typically state, but federally funded) * Eliminate unauthorized departments (See Dept of Education) * Fire lazy gov't workers

My brother is over there right now in Afghan.... Stop acting like I don't know what military service men/women sacrifice leaving here to go there. You have no clue about me or my family. I've also already said that people that have served overseas in a combat zone shouldn't be affected. There are a lot of things to cut. We are going to have to pay for the politicians wars and all the debt that we have accumulated. BTW you live 40+ miles from a base?
You cut just about anything people are going to get hurt and lose money.
Cutting foreign aid - depends what you are going to cut. Cutting a lot would not be helpful in a lot of areas and would in the end cost us.
Stop paying farmers not to farm - I disagree with this probably by far the most. Not really going to go into it but food costs would sky rocket. Things like corn, potatoes, and soy are critical to our nation.
Welfare - I agree cutting a ton of the waste in that area. I think we could sae a boat load in that area if we just get smart and do it.
Fire lazy gov't workers - Having had to work with them I 100% agree. There are a lot that are good extremely hard working people but there are also a ton of lazy people that know they won't get fired for poor performance.

I always hear people complaining about Obama's new health care iniciatives, but I have never heard anyone complain about the old system. Were you to young to work or to lazy to work in the 90's - 2002? For me, around 2002, health care cost for me and my child started rising. It cost me around $40.00 every 2 weeks prior to 2002. Around 2006, it cost me around $275.00 every 2 weeks. I am totally lost when people are complaining that Obama's health care reform is a sham. What in the fu(king world do you call the current plan? "Obamacare" will not be activated until 2014. I cannot wait because paying $550.00 a month for carefirst bluecross blueshield at a large firm has to stop. That is a net increase of $470.00 dollars a month that I incurred while Bush was in office, and I am not going to state how much car fuel increased during that same time frame. And, USMCAG is complaining about a co-pay.
