The ATM at Walgreen's near my house got ripped out last night.

  • Along with the front half of the entrance doors. Heard the manager say it was ripped out with a winch.

At some festivals I have helped with, they started at 10,000.

    Sure it differs though.

Not worth doing time for that IMO.

Of course not. What's crazy is that the gas station in front of it had it's ATM ripped out about 6 months ago, and I live in a nice area. Those familiar with Birmingham/Hoover, I live in Ross Bridge.

That's pretty good. It's a very long course. I have played at least 4 or 5 times a month for 3 years and am usually in the mid 80s now. Best round is a 79 there last September.

  • while it probably wasn't in the 10 grand range, even a few grand with minimal exposure beats the 50 dollar 7-11 job with maximum exposure and the upcharge of armed robbery.

commercial burglary, while it is not a GOOD thing, well, ripping an ATM out of a building will get you less time than holding up a 7-11 with a pistol.

    probably more restitution though.

Solid point. Their efficiency was impressived from what I heard. 90 seconds from pulling in to pulling out.

  • How difficult is it to trace these things?

My company puts GPS on just about everything these days. I don't see why you wouldn't have it installed on an ATM.

They can trace them to a military level GPS for most. The latest one's self report with GSM cellular capability if installed in high risk areas. There are also usually security cameras everywhere around those locations so if the thieves didn't steal a vehicle they are caught on tape and if they did then they just added another charge and more time.

The bigger rip-off right now are the "skimmers" that thieves place in the card readers which collect your account and pin info and record it for later use. Banks are and have been onto that for a couple of years now and have installed devices to prevent it so the latest gig for those guys are gas pumps. The good ones come by, slide the device into the card slot on a pump (or a couple comes by and hit a few pumps) leave them in for a day or less and then retrieve them. They end up with hundreds of different people's information and it's difficult to catch them. Much more money, less chance of getting caught.

That's absolutely crazy. How about the people that now carry devices that pick up your pay pass info for those new swipe cards.

Depends on location, but usually 20k to 80k, but it's usually only that high during tax season.

We live in a crazy azz world. The break in reports we see now are much different than even 5 years ago. Back then they wanted your tv, electronics, guns, jewelry, etc. We now see a lot where nothing is taken but the computer. All about identity theft. Anything that can access your personal information is gold on some streets.
