Not crying, unlike FSU Miami has one of the best 2nd string o-lines in the country. flex

    Nothing

If Miami has one of the best 2nd team OL's then UVA is a powerhouse program

No lol. Cargo went off about NoVa's thoughts on the FSU o-line. I was trolling about Miami's.

not a huge amount to really report on

    - jernigan was a monster in practice. will miss the rest of spring though with a high ankle sprain. no biggie since we all know that guy can play. rather have him healthy for the season

    - Pender is looking good. very explosive and has really impressed jimbo. of course we know jimbo doesnt want to get shanked like a bitch so hes going to say everything great about pender

    - derrick mitchell is finally healthy and according to Jernigan is really looking like a beast at DT. will be interesting to see how much PT he gets next year. kid is massive

    - QB competition is ongoing. all three look solid. winston lit it up a week ago in scrimmage with 200+ yards and 2 tds. qb battle is tough to get a read on, jimbo is playing it close to the vest

    - Aguayo looks like he might be a solid replacement for dustin hopkins. supposedly boomed a 60 yd FG. obviously zero pressure or anything but thats still pretty impressive

    - Christian Jones and Telvin Smith seem to like the new defensive scheme. they get to blitz alot more and make plays

thats pretty much it. we dont get much in the way of detailed writeups out of Jimbo. guess we will see what happens saturday. its hard to gauge where the defense is since so many starters are injured. weve got like 3 corners out with offseason surgeries or sprains so we will see alot of the backups play.

  • how was the UF spring game/practice? i havent seen much on it but i heard rumblings from some gator friends that it left something to be desired

  • Thanks, Phil. Lol'd @ the Pender part. Will he contribute this year in special packages or as a third down back? Has he picked up the blocking scheme?

I'm pretty confident Winston will be the QB starter.

How are the WRs doing? That's a talented ass group.

Unless you went to the game, it was hard to tell bc the broadcast was horrendous. But from what I saw, Matt Jones and Antonio Morrison are our best players.

Our D will be top 3 again. Easily. Talent at every level. Believe it or not but Cummings impressed the hell out of me. He's big and thick but can move. He will be our anchor in our 34 looks.

Worried about Driskel's progression and our WR/TE unit.

Herb Waters has been a stud, Alex Fig has really been impressing. Couple starters on the o-line out for spring with surgery. Back-up QB's are garbage with Gray Crow looking like he wants to be the #2. Tracy Howard and Antonio Crawford battling for 2nd CB spot with Crawford having a slight edge. Had the second open scrimmage last week and the D had some big hits. Kirby knocked out Standish (who's been looking good so far). Anything else?

Heard the D has been having some trouble adjusting to the new coaches. Any truth to that?

    WillieMuffcramp

  • Pender will definately play alot. Wilder is the smashmouth big guy without a ton of speed. Pender will hopefully be our next chris thompson and bring explosion and homerun hitting back. freeman is somewhere between the two. hes got more wiggle than wilder but less speed than pender. we run a RB by committee and they should all rotate. the wildcard is ryan green who brings alot of speed and natural ability as well.

i hope Winston starts but i have a bad feeling its going to be trickett. too much familiarity with the system. hes not a bad qb, he just doesnt offer a ton of versatility. hes not a threat to run and doesnt have a huge arm. hes a poor man's Ponder.

WRs look good. Greg Dent has probably been the best receiver of the spring according to Jimbo. Rashad Greene is always dangerous and hes so good that he doesnt get the same praise because the coaches expect him to be good. Benjamin has gotten some praise. im hoping hes learning to run better routes and give better effort. Kenny Shaw is his usual solid self and i expect him to get his usual 5-600 yards and keep movin the chains for us.

The scrimmage was at Naples High, right?

I was always a Herb Waters fan. Urb offered him but new staff didn't recruit him which I felt was a mistake.

You guys have any early enrollees?

Our backup QBs suck too. Fig is a DT?

surprised that cummings is doing so well. i was really dissappointed that he didnt pan out here. he had a lot of talent and just kept getting passed over. its hard though when youve got guys like Jernigan and Goldman getting recruited right behind you though and you keep getting weird injuries. hope he does well, just not the last week of november

im not that surprised about the WRs because you havent got a whole lot to work with yet. is purifoy moving to WR permanently from CB or is that just an experiment?

not that ive heard. theyre having some growing pains with the new scheme but thats to be expected. i havent heard anything alarming. Jimbo only used the term "average" once which is a good thing. thats usually his codeword for shitty when he refers to practices. guys like Jones and Smith seem to have picked it up really well and i expect them along with Joyner and jernigan to really lead the other guys

Purifoy will definitely play both ways. How many offensive snaps he gets depends on the players around him. If Hargreaves comes in and is too good to sit on the bench, Purifoy will play more offense bc he won't be need as much on D. And the other way around. If Bud is good, Purifoy will play more D. If both Bud and V3 is good, that's a great problem to have.

Fig is a LB, he would have been a big time recruit but didnt have the grades 2 years ago. He was suppose to go prep but had to have surgery and didnt make. Basically missed a year of football but is a really big kid and has been balling so far. Beau Sandland and Sonny Odogwu are EE Sonny has looked good, Beau needs to work on pass blocking
