Would you say that 999 out of 1,000 is good enough when our government/military is killing folks overseas? Cause that ain't perfect either, but doesn't cause as much of an outrage.

Again, I'm not going to get in an argument about it because its one of those things that people have already made up their minds about.

That said, I think they are 2 separate things. Collateral damage in warfare is a crappy part of warfare. If 1,000 people were killed by collateral damage in an attempt to stop Hitler, then it was worth saving the 10,000 people he would have killed had he not been stopped.

Not really trying to argue with you, didn't mean it that way.... just posing the question I guess. And I was for the death penalty anyway. Just trying to look at it from another perspective.

STRONGLY agree. You get one appeal for it and we whip you through like an assembly line. That sounds very harsh but really once you know that person is going to be put down give them a couple nights with a preach(If they want it) and a last meal and lets finish it.

I agree, and there shouldn't be a "humane" way to execute someone. It should be the fastest most cost efficient way possible.

I've said it before, bullets cost money everytime, a rope is reusable, and water is free.

I am a proponent of using a rope myself, water is good too.

This is a similar subject then. Do y'all think that it deters people who would possibly commit a crime such as murder or rape if you strung up a person like in the old days?

Nah, those people don't think the same way that "normal" people do... most of the people that receive the death penalty would probably be glad to get it thinking they are some kind of martyr or something.

I think it would matter more on the way the criminals would die rather than the public factor. Knowing they would have to go through an excruciating death like drowning, would probably be more of a deterrent than it happening in public.

  • For it when the crime is especially egregious and the burden of proof is beyond a shadow of a doubt. Once the DP has been issued by a judge I'm for an appeals process, but I think the process should be much shorter.

Cut their heads off in public, and we may be onto something.

  • In favor of it for murder, rape, and most of all - child molesters. The child molesters should automatically get it every time. I think firing squad is a good method.

This is an issue in which I completely understand both sides of the argument. This is the only good argument against the DP in my opinion, although I think modern DNA evidence can make a case far enough beyond dispute to warrant the DP in especially egregious cases.

Could be an idea... might deter people from acting like idiots? The system we have not certainly isn't working.

I do enjoy the old testament myself....however I think that all compassion should still be shown to these people right up until they are gone. Tell them they have an option for a couple nights with a preacher if they so choose and whether they choose that or not it doesn't change the fact that you violated a very serious law and will now pay the ultimate price for it.

  • Would someone mind providing a rebuttal to the successful manner in which some European countries have addressed crime(e.g. Portugal with drug leglization and the public health issue; rehabilitation of major criminals in Norway/Sweden)? I'd love to hear an opinion on it.

I have read some of this article and I am honestly VERY surprised by some of these statistics. Still, there is no way I let someone who has used meth out and about if they refuse treatment.
