Sharpen a weapon? Wish I knew how to do these things. Everything I walk up to it asks me for a whole bunch of ingredients that I do not have. I will figure it all out eventually, but it is very frustrating.

Damnt Mountie why pay for a hardback guide and not read the damn thing. 1. Never buy a weapon..you can find better ones off corpses or in chests. 2. If you're sick go to the alchemy shop in whiterun and purchase a cure disease potion. 3. To Improve your weapons select the grinder at the blacksmith station. 4. Find a spell tome for Clairvoyance..you'll never get lost again. I think I got mine at the College of Whitehold..could be wrong. It's a fairly common spell.

I'll just sharpen the one I have now. I'll probably end up keeping that one forever anyway because I like using it with one hand. I have a two handed weapon under my favorites in case I need something a little bigger. Already got sick and bought the potion to cure it. Not sure what I had, didn't check. I knew I was sick when about 15 people asked me why I wasn't in bedlol

You will find better and better weapons as you progress. As you go on you will find weapons made out of better material with better enchantments.

Also to cure an illness all you have to do is find a Shrine of Akatosh(SP?) and activate it to receive a blessing. This will cure most illnesses. There is usually one in every town. I always use the one in Riften because I am there quite often.

Aight fellas.... I beat Gears of War2 today and I'm buying Gears of War 3 and SkyRim tommorow. Can you guys give me some hints about the best way to start this game? What type of character, what I need to start off a promising future in SkyRim? I'm ok with spoilers, whatever. It won't take any enjoyment out for me. Help a brother start out. I guess I'm lookin for someone to post a Sky Rim for dummies kinda thing. Never played this series before but this thread has me interested.

ALright, just wasted money on a weapon that can only be used by TWO HANDS!!!!!!. This is so frustrating. Back to the 18 damage bullshit weapon. I just don't get it. People say there are better one handed weapons but ANYTHING over 18 damage that I have found is two handed only.

There are plenty of weapons that are one handed that do more than 18 damage. I am not sure where it says on a weapon if it is 2-handed or 1-handed, but usually the breakdown is as such:

    One handed:
    Dagger
    Mace
    Sword
    War Axe

    Two handed:
    Warhammer
    Greatsword
    Battleaxe

If you are having trouble upgrading you have a couple options:
Make one - if you are doing lots of smithing you can make great ones and then upgrade them by using the grindstone. FYI the higher your smithing skill the better you can upgrade (barely any smithing - Fine, 20 - Superior, 40 - exquisuite, 60 - ???, 80 - ???, 100 - legendary)
Find one - when you clear out an area always look the whole place over and check high, low and in chests and you can find good stuff usually
Buy one - very expensive option, but if you need an upgrade and its your only option you can do this

When you finish the Companions main quests and are brought in as a Companion the guy who uses the Skyforge makes you a weapon that will be amazing. I chose the sword, and used the grindstone to make it do 30 points of damage and it is one handed.

Hope that helps you out. There are plenty of options, I can try and help out if you need it. I am using Smithing and One handed weapons so I know what you are going through.

A bunch of ingredients is when you use the forge to make a weapon. When you use the grindstone you only need one ingot of the main ingot for the weapon (i.e. one steel ingot for a steel weapon, one dwarven ingot for a dwarven weapon) and it increases the damage and value of those weapons.

Can also be done with armor when you use the workbench. Increases armor rating and value of armor.

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to do alot of magic definitely be a dark elf. If your thinking more sword and shield, go with Redguard or Nord. The others have their ups and downs, but they're not all that special besides a few class specific nuances.

btw, love this thread. I have been playing for four straight days and am a level 16 redguard with the manliest beard possible. Lots of pillaging has been awry biggrin

  • For anyone doing Smithing, specifically the perks Advanced Armors and Glass Smithing, are those light armor types? I guess it doesn't matter because I am going to take every Smithing perk but I am wondering if I should take those last since I use Heavy Armor.

I couldn't find her either. Theres a guy named i think Armen he has a house in whiterun and is a Redguard and he has a wife so i thought it was her so i went to talk to her and ended up in jail haha. Idk what else to do.

Search in the tavern. I found her in the tavern walking around. That quest is quite the interesting one.

If you mark that quest as active it will put a marker on the person you are supposed to talk to. Also if you mark every other quest as not active that marker will be the only one on your bar that is an arrow so you know right where to go to. Lastly if you hit X/Square on the world map it goes to a local map and you can see what building the arrow is in in town.

Glass Armor is light armor. I did the advanced armor but not sure what it does. Nothing new pops up when I am forging so I don't have any idea.

That is weird. It is supposed to allow Scale and Plate armors when you take that.

Yeah but I think the only new armor that popped up was under leather and it was only one piece. Maybe it will come into play later on when making the Dragon Armor. I haven't been doing as much smithing lately.

By the way I found the jackpot for dwemer stuff to melt into ore. It is a Dwemer Musuem in Markath. You could loot that place five times and still not get it all.

I am now looking for Moonstone for the Elven smithing. I am not having much luck right now.

Let us know if you find moonstone, I'm also looking for some.

I love/hate dwemer ruins. I always get over-encumbered by 2x, but I refuse to drop anything so I end up crawling through the dungeon lol

Honestly I haven't found much ore or minerals beyond Steel. It might be that I am just outpacing the area and leveling Smithing too quickly, because I am buying a fair amount of materials.

I will have to find that place so I can upgrade Lydia's armor. I am in full Orcish and she is still in Iron cry

People keep saying I "don't look too good." Is there a way I can check my health and see if I'm sick or something?

go to the temple in whiterun. go straight to the back and there is a purple shrine that removes them and I gives you a blessing

  • SPOILER... Well, at least I hope not.

The first dragon fight was a little disappointing to me. I ran to the top of the watchtower and fired arrows at the beast on the ground... and that's all it took to kill him. He never flew up to where I was to attack me. I know the rest will be better, I'm actually wondering if I got glitched on here.

I think it is because it is your introduction to them. People would get put off if the very first one they faced was unkillable.

I ran across one that took me ten minutes to kill. Random attack in the wild.

Naw, I think they make that first dragon fight real easy so you can get a soul without trouble

Whenever I see one in the wild its always flying, and thus I dont even bother fighting it. Chances are it would die on top of a rock that I couldnt get to.

I have faced some difficult dragons but they still don't seem as hard as frost trolls.

I think the dragon that you see at the first of the game will be the final dragon and from what I can tell he is much bigger than the others I have seen.

Soljund's Sinkhole has about 4 veins plus about 4-5 loose pieces of ore sitting around. The final boss in the cave is pretty hard, but has some pretty good enchanted loot. Just fininshed my complete set of exquisite Elven armor, looks pretty sharp.
