The Hunger Games

  • Someone please explain the hype and popularity of the books and movies. The movie looks like crap to me.

  • I haven't read the book myself, but have been told they are really good. And as it is when any book, or anything has a lot of acclaim, when they make a movie for it, there is always the hype

  • And to go a little farther, the books have been out for a while, I know the first one, that is actually called the Hunger Games, is over a couple years old at least. And same goes for this as it does for what I mentioned before, once there is a movie coming out for something, everyone wants to know about the original

  • The first book is really really really good . Later on in the series tho it becomes sorta predictable . You'll get a twilight feeling again with the love triangle thing .

  • The writing style is what makes the series so big IMO. Very addicting. I read all three books in two days. Another big thing is it appeals to both sexes unlike some past teen sensations. There is love-dovey stuff for the girls, plenty of action for the guys.

Biggest thing I've heard about the movie, though,is that it stands alone as movie.

  • From what I understand they are YA books (though violent ones) so I have no intention of wasting time on the books or the movies. The premise sounds like it was ripped straight from Battle Royale which I found insultingly stupid. I imagine I am not the target demographic for these books/movies and there must be a reason it keeps getting mentioned in the same breath as Twilight.

What writing style? I read the first chapter and the style was no different than other books I've read

My feelings exactly. Anything that draws comparisons to Twilight will probably not interest me.

You've just assured I won't waste one minute on this movie. Thank you.

I doubt I watch it at all. I watched the first Twilight out of morbid curiosity and turned it off about 20 minutes in.

The one where you leave the story hanging after every chapter. Same exact style as Rowling.

    To each his own,though.

I feel like a lot of authors get labeled good just because they are addictive. I've read some real crap that I kept reading just because it was addicting, I still realized it was crap and I tend to not go back to authors like that as much as authors who were actually good.

  • I'm not saying it will be good (I thought the books were and have not nor ever intend to read Twilight) but you guys hate way too many things IMO. I'm not sure I've heard some of you say anything is good actually.

  • I'm not too keen on the plot. all i know is it's amazing what they can do to make actresses look ugly. Jennifer Lawrence looks turrible in the movie, but is smokin' hot in real life.

  • I don't understand the connection to Twilight either. I didn't even really care that the protagonist was a chick. I knew ahead of time it was going to be Jennifer Lawrence, so I kept pretending it was her in some scantily-clad outfit. The whole love thing isn't even really that developed. It's all about the action. I keep hearing about this Battle Royale-thing. Never heard of it,so doesn't stick in my crawl.

This is going to sound really sadistic, but they better show Rue getting impaled with the spear. If they don't make the movie as gory as the books, I'm going to be VERY pissed.
