I just have higher standards than most when it comes to books and film I suppose.

I'm not saying its going to be the next Shawshank but as long as it's entertaining and a better product than Trolls 2, why not enjoy it? I don't think I could handle it if every movie required heavy intellectual usage. Nothing wrong with a popcorn flick.

I disagree. If the standard is "at least it's better then Trolls 2" then I question what the world is coming to. My standards are much higher and while I can occasionally be enticed to watch a popcorn flick, I need more then gore and explosions to keep me entertained. I understand why lesser movies are made, because somebody will pay money to see it. That someone just isn't going to be me.

So you at all times want to be intellectually stimulated by film? Never just want to kick back and watch a gun fight?

I don't understand the connection to Twilight either. I didn't even really care that the protagonist was a chick. I knew ahead of time it was going to be Jennifer Lawrence, so I kept pretending it was her in some scantily-clad outfit. The whole love thing isn't even really that developed. It's all about the action. I keep hearing about this Battle Royale-thing. Never heard of it,so doesn't stick in my crawl.

This is going to sound really sadistic, but they better show Rue getting impaled with the spear. If they don't make the movie as gory as the books, I'm going to be VERY pissed.

Battle Royale: stick a bunch of teens on an island in a publicly sanctioned event and tell them only one gets out alive. Gore and angst ensue.

I never saw it so what didn't you like: the premise, the execution, or both?

I don't need to be intelectually stimulated by all movies, I do demand more then just a cool gun fight. The gun fight must be believeable within the context of the movie, that means there must be a reason for the gunfight and it must move the plot forward. For instance I hated the Matrix reloaded because it threw fights in there that had no purpose except to show off a fight. However all fights in the first Matrix not only looked cool but worked within the framework of the movie.

execution was cheesy but what do you expect from an old subtitled asian film. My big problem was the premise. A modern society that glorifies kids killing each other? You are going to have to put a whole lot of backstory in there to backup that premise. I wasn't buying it. At least in Running Man weren't they criminals? That was more a gladiator type thing. This was literally a classroom full of kids that they suddenly gave weapons and said go at it or we will blow your heads off.

In tHG there is the Capitol City and 12 Districts that they rule over in a post-apocalyptic US called Panem. There used to be 13 Districts but they attempted rebellion and the Capitol destroyed 13 and won. As punishment each District once a year sends one boy and one girl under 18, chosen by lottery, to fight to the death and everyone is forced to watch the Games on TV. That's the basic gist.

    Sounds reasonable.
You should pick up American Psycho on DVD. I think you'd enjoy it.

I like a good action movie but even taking this movie lightly this doesn't interest me.

Make the capital aliens or something and maybe I buy it. Not only do I not buy humans making this happen, it seems like a piece of public policy that is doomed to failure if it's intent is to keep everybody in check. It would likely do more to incite revolt then prevent it. On top of that they make the characters teens ensuring there is no way i'm watching it.

Now there is a good movie. It's mentally stimulating, funny, quoteable and overall a cool movie. If it was just guy goes crazy and kills people it wouldn't be all that special but it is more then that.

Humans have forced other humans to do some f'd up stuff throughout history. As for the revolt question, you'd have to read the book.
