Also, just keep in mind, the best A/V is a smart user.

On most of my home systems I don't even run a conventional A/V software.

When I pull up Revo, It shows Security Essentials there as a program to uninstall, maybe it comes with Windows 8?

EDIt: NVM, it says "Windows Live Essentials"

crapcleaner is a great app to have around, I recommend it to everyone. Even just to clear your browsing cache/cookies.

No problem though, I majored in IS/IT and my career is my passion. If you guys have more questions even not pertaining to A/V stuff feel free to PM me.

You da' man, bro, thanks again.. First straight answers I have gotten' to my questions, besides my friend IRL..

You sound just like my CPU tech buddy, exactly the same things he said,, "Get Revo, get all the crap off your laptop, Get Norton off it immediately, Use Microsoft Security Essentials if you are going to use an A/V software.."

He does not use an antivirus either, azvalley.

Absolutely. The interwebs is a lot like real life, if something sounds too good to be true, it is. It is not hard to bind and encrypt programs together. Sure you can download a functioning free version of nearly anything, but somewhere there is a happy person because his botnet is steadily growing zombies. Every person who installs that legitimate free app, also just installed his virus.

To put that into perspective, I used my knowledge negatively for a long time. If my virus infects your PC, I can see everything you type, and it gets logged. I can see your screen at anytime. I can control every aspect of your PC and access any file I please. I could flip your screen or open your cd drive, lock your keyboard, flip your mouse buttons.. etc. Its scary, really.

I used to be a HUGE fan, when it was freeware. I still use it, but now that they have a 'paid' version, I lost a lot of respect for them.

MWB used to be one of the best free tools, they fell into the corporate market of limiting features and trying to make money.

So is the 'non-paid' version even worth the download?

BTW, I use ninite.com for all my Windows stuff, you ever use that site? Like it? I dig it.. Personally.

I know basic stuff about computers so that is why I'm curious. How long does it take for these people to come up with these viruses and what goes into them?

Revo will find it, you are good there.

Edit: just to clarify, Revo scans registry, which is where norton leaves crap (basically a virus) behind.

How come they get away with this shit and how come computer companies automatically upload their bullshit software?

Just programming and getting them onto your CPU, Back Orifice was a killer back in the day.. My buddy and sounds like azvalley as well, used to write their own, my buddy's programs did things like az was talking about, ish was scary, he was showing me one time..

I would still recommend the free version, it just annoys me how hard they push you to pay now.

Gotcha' thanks, but it is like you were saying, the best anti-malware/spyware/virus/trojan/etc.. is a smart user, you basically have to try to get a virus/malware/etc , honestly.. IMO, as long as you are careful, you are probably good, I will keep Malwarebytes and Security Essentials anyway though, when I go with my final setup, based upon your advice, which is again, appreciated.
