The Masters should be awesome this year...

  • 1. With the course changes of a few years ago, I like the right hander that can draw the ball off the tee. On 2, 5, 8 and 13 - a righty can no longer pound power fade, they are forced to turn it from right to left. I think that has shown up in recent years.

    2. Because of those course changes, the sight lines off the tees for lefties are so much better IMO. Lefties have some awesome power fade sight lines off the tee - and it's a big advantage IMO. Lefty fade landing in the sloping fairways vs. righty draw doing the same for guys that don't naturally play a draw.

    3. For those reasons, still think Tiger has a very tough task of winning The Masters. He will have to be lights out in every other area, and that's not easy to do.

    4. Of the righties...Keegan Bradley and Rory McIlroy are the two I like. Huge mental round for McIlroy yesterday IMO. Keegan hits the high draw, which is tasty at Augusta - now a days.

    5. Phil Mickelson, the course after the changes is near perfect for, and he's taken full advantage of it. Bubba Watson also has the desired sight lines off the tees.

    With Tiger, Phil, Keegan, Rory and Bubba (now getting healthier) playing better...could be one hell of a week in April.

  • If Tiger is putting well I like his chances.

    The driving is not ideal for Woods, but I have a feeling he will be working feverishly on his draw in time for Augusta.

    His iron play is still fantastic, his distance control is at a level we haven't seen in a while, and if his hot putting continues he will be tough.

    The interesting thing is he knows he has to hit the draw off the tee at Augusta. I'm very interested to see how he does in that regard this year.

    Brandel Chamblee said it best yesterday, he has taken out the left side miss thus far in 2013. That is huge for him mentally on the tee. At The Masters, he's going to be forced to draw it and bring into play the left side miss - which is his mental hang up over the years off the tee.

  • I'll be there for the second time in three years this year. Not sure what round but caught final round 2 years ago and it was amazing.

    JMO, but I always thought that the block was the bigger problem with Tigger, especially after he left Butch. He'd play for the draw and aim right, then hit it right and into God knows where next to the lemonade stand.

    Tiger used to favor the draw, back in his amateur years and his first few years with Butch, but once he started to get stronger and would miss it a little more often, he made the switch to the ball flight that is easier to control (baby fade).

    Tiger's biggest problem at Augusta has been his course management, and swinging too hard with the driver. He gets pumped up and tries to make things happen, which Augusta can make you pay for in spots. He also isn't anywhere near the putter he once was (on most weeks), but if he keeps the putting up from last week then who knows.

    I just hope Rory/any-foreigner-outside-of-Ernie doesn't win it.
