The Masters should be awesome this year...

JMO, but I always thought that the block was the bigger problem with Tigger, especially after he left Butch. He'd play for the draw and aim right, then hit it right and into God knows where next to the lemonade stand.

Tiger used to favor the draw, back in his amateur years and his first few years with Butch, but once he started to get stronger and would miss it a little more often, he made the switch to the ball flight that is easier to control (baby fade).

Tiger's biggest problem at Augusta has been his course management, and swinging too hard with the driver. He gets pumped up and tries to make things happen, which Augusta can make you pay for in spots. He also isn't anywhere near the putter he once was (on most weeks), but if he keeps the putting up from last week then who knows.

    I just hope Rory/any-foreigner-outside-of-Ernie doesn't win it.

    They took our jerbs.

We got Mondays practice round for $250. That's the cheapest we could find

More than worth it IYAM. Especially if you go with a dad or brother or something.

I went on a Wednesday about 5 years ago, and it was one of the best things I've ever been able to experience. I'm a huge golf fan and so is my dad, so I may be biased, but there is literally no experience like walking the grounds at Augusta. I hope I can get a Sunday ticket for me and my pops sometime soon, I want to go back.

He has really struggled with the left miss...it's the one he hates/fears - dating back to the growing up years.

He's won a boat load of tournaments missing right off the tee.

I guess I'm remembering his years with that doofus Haney a little differently than you? shrug

IMO Tiger will finish fairly high, because he almost always plays well at Augusta, but I don't know if he'll win it. I think Lefties have to be VERY long to take advantage of those sight lines, because they have to hit the fade so far to take advantage of those fairways built to favor right-handed drawers of the ball. Bubba and Phil are the only two I can think of who are long enough to, but we'll see.

  • I hope Tiger and Rory are in the final pairing on Sunday. My guess is Rory would crumble like he did a few years back when Tiger started his front 9 charge.

I hope Rory misses the cut.

If we have a field of all Americans + Ernie (because he's a great guy), I'd be ecstatic. It won't happen, obviously, but that's the goal for me.

I'm not sold on Rory yet. People were crowning him after a couple majors. He played well but the field never challenged. Ill be sold when I see him wins major where he's got to sprint to the finish instead of walk in with a 6 shot lead. He's got talent but I'm not sure if he's got the nerves under pressure yet. I want to see that.

Worked out for Weir back in the day. shrug

He was far from a long hitter.

Tiger won most of his majors by sprinting out early and coasting on Sundays. A wins a win IYAM. Still don't like the guy though.

Exception to the rule IMO. It was also before the redesign, which made the course play a bit longer than it did then.

He also never went for a par 5 in two, but had the best wedge game in the world at the time and was putting lights out.

A short knocker can win, but he has to be flawless with the rest of his game to do so.

Seriously? The guy is really good. He is one of the front runners for every major over the next 15 years. He will win double digit majors before his career ends. He is the closest thing we have seen to Tiger in this era.

I was able to attend the final round at Augusta in 2006. I was stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta and we had friends who were ticket owners and they would sell them to the highest bidder every year. In 2006, some guys from Canada came in and used the tickets. Our friends always made those using the tickets return them and the guys from Canada went home early due to an emergency so Sunday was free. Mickelson won and Tiger never really challenged although he was within striking distance when the final round started.

I have never seen anything like Augusta National. It is in a crappy neighborhood/city but once you get inside that fence, it is an awesome spectacle.

Zach can knock the crap out of it when he wants to, and Augusta is probably the only major he could have realistically won.

I'm pretty certain Mike didn't go for anything in two (might not have been long enough), but I could be wrong. He did have the best wedge game in the world at the time though. I actually like Weir a lot, it's a shame he went to the stack and tilt and as a result threw his golf game into the shitter.

  • When Mike Weir won The Masters in 2003, he was 68th in driving distance at 289.3.

He has lost a lot of distance in recent years with swing changes, struggles (confidence hitting driver) and injury. This year so far, 270.7, which is 179th on tour.

  • For the stat junkies when looking at how important distance off the tee is at The Masters....the last 10 years...

    2012
Bubba Watson 1st in driving distance on tour at 315.5

    2011
Charl Schwartzel 43rd in driving distance at 297.0

    2010
    Phil Mickelson 13th at 299.1

    2009
    Angel Cabrera 8th at 304.1

    2008
    Trevor Immelman 66th at 291.3

    2007
Zach Johnson 169th at 280.4 (didn't go for a par in two, wet conditions that week)

    2006
    Phil Mickelson 17th at 300.7

    2005
    Tiger Woods 2nd at 316.1

    2004
    Phil Mickelson 30th at 295.4

    2003
    Mike Weir 68th at 289.2

Of course, that's season distance #'s for all guys.

Unless it's wet/soggy and course lengthening conditions, better get the rock out there 290+ yards off the tee.

  • If Westwood can hit some puts I'd imagine he will be in it. Snedeker isn't super long off the tee but makes up for it on the greens and he's been hot of late.

Sneds should be back healthy in two weeks too, I believe. Wonder if the time off will hurt him as he was playing terrific.
