He's another Bammer retread. He's from the Fran/Shula days. Really nice guy, not much of a coach.

To many "nice guys" are coaches. It's the A-Holes like Saban, Belicheck, Sean Payton, Petrino and numerous others that are the good coaches.
The nice guys like Richt, Chizik, Sherman (former TAMU coach), Croom, and many more are not as good as the A-holes but always find big time jobs.
Danielle Hunter, Jamario Rasco, Anthony FREAK Johnson.. DL wrecking crew of 2013.

Staff has a number of DuBose and Franchione guys.
Seems odd to me.
Seriously would have thought Gus would have been open to keeping BVG, but I can understand getting someone with at least some HC experience in Ellis Johnson as well.

I think 2015 will be the make or break year for Malzahn. I except struggles to continue next season but not to the same extent. Guys don't like going from undisciplined to disciplined and you'll lose a lot of players from the 2013 defense albeit not that great and Jake Holland's replacement just about has to be better. Wouldn't surprise me if he loses his starting role this year
